I probably would have moved...but it would definitely been an inconvenience. I never ask someone to do that for me...I just wait...do not like inconveniencing anyone else.

That's pretty much how I viewed it. He had choices before he sat down. He sat anyway, making assumptions. In general, I'm very careful about making assumptions that others will do what I need them to do. I can be hopeful, and grateful, when they do. But it's not my assumed conclusion that I'll get what I want because I'm me, and people always say yes to me. There was an assumption in his manner, in what he said, and how he interacted with the server as well.

Moving to accommodate others or sharing a table is a standard practice in Europe.

I've met some wonderful people that way.

I would never in my wildest dreams ask someone eating to move. First come, first serve. I'd wait my turn to be seated.

Sharing a table in a crowded place is something I do fairly often, and I agree, it's fun, interesting and rewarding. Especially when tourists ask to share.
