How to use "Prime Member" function for Kindle books

Didn't know whether to post here or on the Electronics Talk thread. I've had a Kindle 3g WifI since Christmas and have almost 300 books, most free, some I purchased. I decided to sign up for Prime, since there is a 30 day free trial period.

I don't want to use it to buy hardcovers, only books for my Kindle. How do I use this? how does it work?

I know this sounds dopey, but can someone explain it to me in simple terms? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}
