Re: How to make laundry smell really good without using softener?

Any ideas?  I'm getting ready to wash my Berkshire velvet soft fleece sheets, and the instructions state not to use fabric softener.  I feel like my clothes don't smell fresh if I don't use some kind of softener?

Any tips or tricks?  Thanks!

Downy Unstoppable beads can be sprinkled in drawers  to keep your clothing or sheets smelling good year round.  They last a long time before you have to renew them.

I have used white distilled vinegar (cheap) for years.  I have the fluffiest towels and my sheets smell great.  I put it in my washer in the 'fabric softener' place.

I use this for anything I wash!

I do as well. I want my laundry to smell clean not perfumed.

If I want some scent I add the Downy Unstopables or Gain’s version. You can control the scent level by how much you use. A little goes a long way and the scent last’s for weeks like advertised.

@AmericanBulldogMom I used those when I received a sample in the mail. I did not dare use what it stated on the package. I just threw in 5-6 of those little balls. That was enough for me. I could not imagine what it would have smelled like if I used what they say to use. I prefer not to use any of the products with fragrance.

I store my sheets in a linen closet scented with a bar of soap that I love.

The scent stays with the sheets ever so slightly.

Of course, that will only work if you don't put them right back on the bed.

You could also spray lavender hydrosol on them before you put them back on the bed.

I just right now thought of something.:  Lightly spray pillow cases and bedsheets (blankets, too) with vodka.  It would leave a fresh, clean scent.

P.S. re: spraying vodka on pillowcases, etc............I believe there are flavored vodkas.  Vanilla vodka and lemon vodka.  If I'm not mistaken.   Might be the perfect 'clean' and fresh scent for bedding.

The items I can't use fabric softener on, I use white vinegar on. I ALWAYS run all of my stuff through an additional rinse in addition to the one it already gets. When the first wash and rinse are done, I put it through another rinse and spin cycle and I fill the fabric dispenser up with the white vinegar instead of fabric softener. I only do that on very few items though. I like fabric softener and I only use Suavitel in the blue bottle. I don't have any issues with scent though or allergies though. I use the vinegar though on bath mats, shammies and microfiber cloths, items that don't absorb as well when fabric softener is used because it leaves a residue even when rinsed well.
