I always use self check out at Kroger.  Too many times things ring up incorrectly there.  I don't shop Kroger as often as I used to and when I do it's just the digital coupons and sales and I buy just a few items.  I never use the self check out at Publix.  Lines are generally never long there and they bag your groceries.  Though some put a lot more in one bag than others and mix stuff (like putting bread on the bottom and heavy stuff on top).  I always use my own bags.  Targets self check outs in my area are always very long, I hardly use it.  Never at Costco either.  I prefer using a cashier.  Kepp the jobs for them.

I use self checkout most of the time because when I go grocery shopping, they usually have only a couple of cashiers and the lines are terribly long.  Self checkout is better for me because I usually don't have to wait at all or only a minute to get a place.  It takes me probably longer to bag my items because I am kind of particular as to how I bag my things and there is a tiny space to put your items on.  I only saw a person help somebody to bag their items once in a store and it was a very elderly, frail looking person who was struggling and he asked for help.

I would say it would be much easier for you if you could to do shopping on line where they bring it to your home or order it on line and ask to have curbside pick up.  This way the items are already packaged and they load up your car.

I always use the self scanner.  That way I can see the price of everything that goes thru and bag the way I want.    I don't mind at all.

I have trouble getting them to "help" bag my groceries( I have servere shoulder problems)..I always ask before putting my stuff on the belt..One day the girl say "no"..I let her ring everything up and then told her I didn't want it!..So she had to get a manager..he bagged the stuff for me..Never saw the girl again.

I usually get an annoyed look..I tell them I do not work or get paid from the store to work...

@Jo1313 what a spiteful nasty thing to do. You sound like one of those difficult customers.  And since you have shoulder problems & need help bagging you should use the regular checkout.

@Jo1313  -  That is indeed a mean thing to do.  Why would you do that?   Awful.

Ok..I'm a horrible human being! In order to get some things done with the right person you have to do what you have to do...I'm sure that girl got more training.

@Jo1313 - You have no way of knowing whether that girl "got more training" or not, since you say you never saw her again.

All you did was make her day more difficult than it needed to be.  If she, indeed, said she wouldn't (couldn't) bag your groceries, at the same time as ringing them up, you could've gone to another register.  (Some lines where I live don't have baggers, others do.)

It was the spitefulness of waiting until she'd rung everything up and then telling her  you "didn't want it", that's making some of us view what you did in a negative way.  It's as if you wanted to get her in trouble with the manager.

Maybe, if you'd attempted to do some of the bagging, she would've helped once she finished ringing it all.  Maybe, if you had asked, she could've called someone over to help before she started ringing it up.  But you'll never know.  Woman Frustrated

I always use the self checkout when available.  One time I was overcharged $12.00 using the regular register and had to go back to the store to get my money back because the prices were wrong in the computer or the computer did not pick up the mark down price.  I keep track of prices as I put them in my cart now too.  I know this isn't possible for a lot of people but I can't afford to over pay for items.

Now, when I go through self checkout, I can be sure that what rings up is what is on the package and, if it's not, the person at the self checkout area can come over and fix it.  Just a couple of weeks ago I had four items marked for quick sale at 50% off but the computer rang up the full price.  I watch these guys like a hawk.   😁

Self checkout for me. Years ago I saw a cashier luck her figure to open a bag, I was the next person in line so I put everything back in my cart and from that time, it's self checkout for me.

I prefer to use self-checkout, and bring my own reuseable bags.  Every time.
