One thing I have never ever done and will not do is purchase something under lock and key.

I will go elsewhere or order online.  In NYC almost all laundry products are now locked up so I always go to Amazon for those.  The nearest grocery store sounds a shrill alarm if you open up the ice cream freezer!

I don't appreciate being treated as a potential thief, so no sale.

But I'll pay extra to use a self checkout lane!

How is that supposed to work, anyway?

All those huge jugs of laundry soap ... do they think we're going to shove them in our pants thinking no one would notice if we try to walk out?

I rarely buy anything under lock and key .... I'm a big label reader and if I can't examine the instructions, dosages or ingredients, or whatever, they can forget it!

Same here .... too many pricing mistakes, too often.

So if I have someone check me out, afterwards I step aside and go down the grocery receipt to see if the prices are correct.  I don't walk out the door until I've scanned the receipt.

It's just easier to do it myself!

Question:  If you're Self Scanning groceries, how do you Self-Scan veggies/fruits, like a single apple, or summer squash, or a bag of hand selected, numerous fresh cherries, or bananas?

I try to avoid self-checkouts/scanners as much as possible.  I'd rather wait in line than feel the pressure of checking myself out while other people are eagerly waiting behind me.

@JoyFilled Warrior  - You put in the code provided at the register, then set the product on the scanner/register, and it will weigh it and give you a price.

Or if the item does not have a sticker, there is a "look up this item" on the monitor. You can either look it up by picture or enter the first 4 letters of the item and it would pop up.

Usually there are at least 2 attendants there that will help.

And more and more produce have started adding a bar code beneath the four digit code. You scan the bar code and place it on the scale.
