TV in my house is on from 5AM until 9PM every day... just on while we do other things. I do not usually sit and watch any one thing in particular expect at night after dinner my favorite shows. But all day long it is just on while I clean house or such to keep me company.

I like to listen to music and in the new year I want to read more on my Kindle.
I think you are missing the point of using a DVR. You set it to record ONLY shows you want to watch, and watch them on your time schedule, not a networks time schedule. "Would never find time to watch "all of that""? Again, that is the point, you watch shows YOU like WHEN YOU choose to watch them.
You can watch most 1 hour shows in 40 minutes or less. You fast forward through the commercials, thus cut these shows by 20 minutes or more.
Since you like sports, you record ONLY the games YOU want to watch, when YOU want to watch them. I have probably told thousands of people since the late 1960's, the purposes of "time shifting", but I still hear the same "I don't have time".
If a person watches ANY TV shows, they have time. The big difference is you watch ONLY shows you want to watch, and knock minutes off that time by not watching commercials you probably do not want to watch.
It's a Win/Win when it comes to time spent watching, plus you are watching shows, or sports, you enjoy, not one that just happens to be broadcasting on their schedule, not yours. Some of those thousands I mentioned finally Got It, others? Not!

I watch the national news, the local news, and sometimes "Jeopardy" only because my mother has turned the kitchen tv on while I'm cooking supper.
DH and I are not big tv watchers. We don't even watch sports. We both look forward to the evening when we can sit down and read.

@hckynut No I know how a DVR works. I am full time caregiver for my Mom. And her house manager, snow removal person, house cleaner, laundry doer, and much more. I'm just busy, so I watch sports in real time because I just love them that way. The rest well I'm just tired more often than not. I have my mindless stuff that I fit in when I can. I'm probably not into tv enough to even justify a dvr. When my life was more carefree, maybe.

I watch a lot less than when my children were small since the advent of the internet. I prefer "talking" to people that I have common interests on a couple of sites. I like a few programs but TCM is probably my favorite venue. Old movies appeal to me and I particularly enjoy anything Hitchcock.

I put the TV on in the morning and it's on all day.
We don't watch TV when we eat dinner. I DVR a lot of shows so there's always something to watch. Plus, I like to fast foward through the commercials.
There are certain shows we watch regularly - Dancing, Survivor. We watch a lot of documenteries and those types of shows.

It's on 24/7 if we are home. Not really watching but it is on. If something is on its am interested on I watch.
When I do heavy duty cleaning I mute TV and put rock music on. AC/DC, Bob Seager, MJ.

The t.v. is on from the time I get up until the time I go to bed. I watch off and on. I keep it on mostly for company as I spend a great deal of my time alone.
Mornings either MSNBC or CNN are on then it gets switched to any of the channels that air shows from the 50s-70s for pretty much the rest of the day until I put it back on the news channels to end the day.

I watch t.v. at certain times of the day. 1-3pm and 8-till whenever.
I listen to my t.v. sometimes thru my radio. DH has it piped in thru the stereo. When I get tired of music, i turn on set top box, tune in a station and finish whatever. The t.v. is not turned on, just listening to give me backround noise.
