How much allowance/spending money?

My son is 17 years old and a Sr. this year. He is suppose to be getting a little job - so he will have spending money and learn some responsability. I give him money for school related activities and lunch. I've also been helping him out with gas money which he seems to use more for running around. I am not sure if I should be giving him more or should not be giving him as much. Do any of you have some suggestions or advice?
