I don't know about anybody else, @gardenman , but I have a good understanding of Microsoft's goal with Windows 10. That said, Windows 10 isn't compatible with many inplace systems for upgrade. It's just not that simple. Personally, I won't be forced to purchase a new computer until I'm ready. 2020 gives me some time to decide what I want to do. I have no aversion to Windows 10 per se, but I will not be bullied into it to help MS achieve its quota.![]()

What sort of quota? Either you get the Windows 10 for free or you pay for it when you decide to upgrade after the free period is up. Already Microsoft has stopped support of windows XP. Windows 7 will lose its support in 2020 (four years from now). Windows 8 I think might be a little later. I posted a link herein from Microsoft so folk could understand what all this entails. No updates mean no service paks and fixes. Which, we know leaves the user vulnerable.

One laptop my husband and I have had good luck with is the Google Chrome Book. There is no Microsoft operating system on this computer. The pros are it's fast, low cost, and no updates....ever. The cons are it's limited to internet browsing and basic documents and spreadsheets The Chrome Book may work for you if you use it primarily for internet and email. We have had ours for several months and have had no problems. Just an alternative to Microsoft.

It's no secret that Microsoft's plan is for millions of Windows 10 free installs to devices. More like a billion.
I know all about the support guidelines. I've posted them before as well and they're very helpful.![]()
The truth is that we do have options. Now, later, or not at all. As far as the charge for Win 10 later? Many of us will wait to upgrade with a new computer where Win 10 would be rolled in...or switch to other brand/OS options. ![]()

I have had Microsoft 10 for quite a while now and like it better than MS 8. I use Google Chrome because I did have trouble with Microsoft Edge, I did not like it.

Went to Microsoft store in mall and they fixed it. They also offered to take Windows 10 off if I wanted. Have you tried phoning the Microsoft store?
It totally messed up my computer...I had to take my computer in and let them fix the mess downloading 10 did to my computer. Cost me over 500.00 dollars to get it all right.
Wow! Did Microsoft charge you that? I made an appointment at their store in the local mall and they fixed my problem for free.
No a company we use...it created many...many problems for my computer. Worked like a charm for about 2 months and then it went wonky on me.

I kicked Microsoft to the curb the day I received my first Apple Imac computer. Ever consider crossing over to the dark side? I rarely if ever struggle against the Apple software compared to when I had microsoft and every update/upgrade was like a Ali/Frazier to the finish.

Welcome to the forums, @JanefromTX! ![]()
My husband and I both use Google Chromebooks, too.
We are both pleased with them.
He wanted a Chromebook for ease of use.
He uses Windows every day at work, and just wanted something at home where he could check e-mails, watch videos, and not have to worry about computer maintenance.
I am the one here at home who would do all of the computer maintenance and PC troubleshooting. I was actually starting to get tired of working on our old Windows computer, and was getting tired of fixing it when things would go wrong with it.
When it finally stopped working, I had decided that I would also get a Chromebook, too.
I'm really enjoying it, and I like using the Google Docs feature with it, if I do want to write any letters on it. ![]()

Nope, uh-uh, no way... Windows 10 is not a given... I'm tired of Microsoft too and my next machine will be a Mac... Microsoft just has too many moving parts and I don't want to have to keep up with them... I don't get the big Bing conundrum though. Anyone wanting to use Bing can do so. Type Bing in whatever search bar you're using and when it comes up use it. If you want to set it as your default search engine you can do that for whatever browser you use.

Wonderful. I thought you were trying to imply some sort of conspiracy theory......
