Re: How many have changed out their wedding set for a new one?

I always loved my ring set and wouldn't think of replacing it with anything else. It's beautiful and it holds sentimental value.

I am shocked that so many women are not sentimentally attached to their original wedding set. If I lost mine or it was stolen I think it would break my heart.

I actually own a much larger wedding set that my grandfather made for me (he was a jewelry designer for a large jewelry store in Pitts). He made my grandmother a beautiful set for their 50th anni. and since she had passed away when I got married he made me a Tiffiany bridge ring from the stones he had used in grandmas anni ring. However, it is so large and completely not me at all, that since my grandfather died it has been kept in my safety dep box. I suppose some day I will pass it on to his eldest great grand daughter, but now I honestly keep it because I know its value and it makes me feel secure.

My husband means more to me than the ring on my finger.

At every Joan Rivers show I've attended, she would pick out a few women sitting up front and ask to see their rings. If the diamond was small, she'd shake her head and say, "Sorry, first wife." If it was big, she was a second wife. She was always right, except if it was a third wife.

I sure do miss that lady.

I miss her too, Sunny. I keep expecting to "see" her on Fashion Police or at QVC..... {#emotions_dlg.sad}

The only way I would replace my wedding set is if I lost it. I know two husbands that bought their wives new wedding sets and it wasn't long before both couples were getting divorced. I'm too superstitious to even think about it now! Smiley Wink

Re: How many have changed out their wedding set for a new one?

I would only "upgrade" if hubby surprised me, and I've already told him I wouldn't want to. I have a 1.25 carat brilliant cut solitaire set in an eternity band, with a complimenting eternity wedding band. I have no desire to change. If anything, I would either like a thin gold eternity band for when I wear gold jewelry, or a right hand ring -- probably just another eternity band with larger diamonds. I absolutely love my ring, and get complimented on it often. It's very classic and fits my style well. And, hubby picked it out and surprised me with it, and did a fabulous job, so I just can't see trading it in for something else. It has too much sentimental value to me. I do understand that many women don't have much when they get engaged and married, or their tastes change, but if anything, I would keep the original and just buy a new one. There's something about looking at that ring and thinking about where you are in your life, how far you've come, and the special time that was in your life when you first got the ring. I'm just super sappy and sentimental that way. Smiley Wink

Re: How many have changed out their wedding set for a new one?

I still have my original engagement ring that was given to me 47-48 yrs ago. the diamond is only 1/3 carat but beautiful to me. the wedding ring did fracture and can't be repaired, so dh bought me a plain silver wedding band, and I wear that all the time. dh and I went to our minister at church and we did a small ceremony before church service and we exchanged our bands once again.
