Your post is a perfect example of why so many of us refuse to ever share any personal information on this forum.
And any physician who said such a thing is clearly not a good representative of the profession.
I have a hard time believing any MD said such an ignorant thing.
So do I, Noel. So do I.
Hope you are doing well and the weather is nicer.
Hi SR
We're having warm weather this weekend, with weather people forecasting Fall shortly after. Yay! I'm working on getting a good start on the coming season/holidays so I don't freak out when there are merely days left, lol.
I'm pretty good, I hope you are, also.
You are smart getting ahead on the upcoming season. I am the same way, it seems to creep up on us and I don't know where the time has gone. This year I have vowed to myself that I will shop early.
I am glad to hear that the weather is going to improve. I am very familiar with your health concern and know how difficult it can be when it is hot out. Take care of yourself.
Thank you, SR
It's good advice for anyone with a chronic condition: start things ahead of time, because doing a lot in a short period of time can worsen the condition.

Too many. The last couple years I was treated for an allergic reaction and was treated by two Drs. One dealt with the physical issue, but he couldn't prescribe the kind of pills he wanted me to take. The other prescribed the pills. They had different perspectives and didn't agree with each other. Many times I had to use my own judgment since I got conflicting views. The primary was no help when I told her what they both said. Glad it's over.

Hi, SoftRaindrops and Noel.
In my opinion, that's one of those remarks that fits into the "said no reputable physician ... ever" meme.

I would tend to discount anything that particular poster has to say. I've seen nothing but angry, bitter, sour, negative posts from her/him.

Last year I retired from a position which involved me in Resident education, as well as Staff physician education, physician certification regarding new devices, trauma education and teaching of microvascular surgery skills.
Believe me, I would no more place my health in the hands of one physician than I would the man in the moon.
The complexities, bodies of knowledge, technology and continuing education required of each specialty is mind boggling. The sum for a PCP would be impossible.
So...if one has a primary care physician, only, where is he/she obtaining the body of knowledge, etc., and time required to properly diagnose and treat you?
Everyone on my mother's side of the family lives in a Great Lakes state and they all go to one of two physicians. Down to a person, it is not until they have been hospitalized by their PCP and things have turned sour, that a specialist is brought in. This is the way medicine was practiced 50 years ago. I'd rather get the referral or, better yet, ask for the referral myself, if something really requires attention.
And, yes, I have more than 1 physician.

Generally speaking, specialists are for a treatment of a specific condition and are not intended to treat people forever. There are certain circumstances that vary from that - pain docs for example - by in general, you go to them for a specific condition and they should treat it and /or stabilize it, then you can go back to your PCP for continued care. For instance - you have a rash and you go to a dermatologist, he treats it and it gets better but occasionally returns. If the treatment worked the first time, and you just need a Rx for that treatment, why would you need to return to the dermatologist? Just ask your PCP to prescribe it. It is the PCP's job to know that you went to the derm for this, that he treated it, and what he used to treat it,and to continue that care for you.Overuse of expensive specialists is a huge reason why medical care is so expensive in America. This is why some insurances require a referral from the PCP for patients to see specialists.
