Re: How long does it take you to fall asleep at night?

Well, at least I'm not alone, ha! None of my immediate friends have this problem (& we're all about the same age). I will try reading after turning off the TV (which can be stimulating, I guess) & cutting off the caffeine a little earlier, don't think I can make it 5 hrs immediately though. I am not a water person, so will buy some juice or lemonade for dinner. I do read a lot, but often I am tired, but not sleepy afterwards.

Kathy ~ Here is an article from Web MD with tips on falling asleep faster. Interestingly, it says that it can take up to 14 hours for caffeine to be out of your system. Honestly....I don't drink coffee in the afternoon for that very reason. Even decaf has a little caffeine in it.

Try limiting the coffee.....or at least have decaf if you have to have a cup in the afternoon.

Or try tea instead of coffee.

It occurred to me that maybe you are fighting your body's natural cycle. Is there any reason why you want to go to bed so early, and get up so early, especially now that you're retired? I know when I'm not working, I'm naturally more of a night owl.

Re: How long does it take you to fall asleep at night?

It always takes me between 30 and 60 minutes unless I'm downright exhausted and then it's probably still 15 minutes. Last night was one of those rare nights for me. I went to bed a half hour earlier than normal and was asleep in 10 minutes.

Falling asleep isn't the problem. It's staying asleep. I can't have caffeine past noon because I will lie there forever.

I am the same way, brii. I've found even if I have decaf when I go out to dinner, it can keep me awake. I had thought that the Khalua and brandy in it might offset the coffee...but apparently it doesn't....{#emotions_dlg.devil2}

I have rheumatoid arthritis & I am tired by 9 pm usually, no matter when I get up. I think I am sleepy, but once in bed, then just lie awake. I do read a lot, but the book feels heavy (my RA in my hands), I turn out the light - & just lie there. I'll start by decreasing the caffeine & see if that helps.

I'm with Brii and Emma. I can fall asleep pretty quickly, staying asleep is the problem.

I fall asleep in about two minutes, then I wake up about every hour...five hours of sleep is the MAX I ever get!
