Re: How long do you keep (use) left overs?

Really depends on what it is, but we rarely have anything last longer than 4 days. We eat our leftovers pretty much right away; some things I toss them to my brothers chickens, and very few things get tossed in the garbage on Friday morning for pick up.

2 to 3 days max. If it's meat we usually cut it up in small pieces and put on top of the dog's food with a little broth. We never give bones to our dog.

Re: How long do you keep (use) left overs?

My father could be your husband's twin. My father was a child of the depression and threw nothing out. When he could no longer live alone he moved in with me. It was then that I began making meals for 4 and we'd eat 1/2 the meal one night, make something else the next night (again for 4) and then begin on leftovers. I don't want them in my house for longer than 2 days.

My father once saw me throw out moldy strawberries and the next day I got up and there were hulls and red seed like things in the sink. He'd gotten up in the middle of the night, cut out the moldy spots and ate the fruit. Ewwwww!

My husband has no trouble taking his chances with eggs...I'd be a little nervous eating eggs if it's been a week or more after the use by date.

I would do the float test for eggs, if they float in a bowl of water then time to toss. I would use eggs up to a month after the sell by date.

Never refrigerate canned tuna fish after mixing it for a tuna salad, use it within several hours. Also if you eat AHI style tuna and fresh tuna even when it has been cooked, don't keep it as a leftover. All tuna and darker meat fish carry histotoxins - these can become more intense with each temperature fluctuation and cause food poisoning.

When I make tuna salad sandwich for my lunch, I always have enough left over for my sandwich the next day. So - I should throw out what I have left over and not save it for the next day? Never heard about this.

me either. restaurants mix tuna salad the day before and serve it for the next few days.

the food safety website says 3-5 days for egg, tuna, ham, macaroni salad chicken salad.

Re: How long do you keep (use) left overs?

Can't remember the last time I had any left-overs or from what. Usually make what I am going to eat and when it is only for 1, and maybe a little help from a few felines?

My answer would be maybe 15 minutes.
