The old space bags did not work for very long.

@toomanybrandies  HSN has wonderful compression bags, bought two sets and most are filled.

Why does any retailer sell them?  It isn't just QVC.  This "as seen on TV stuff" is something I steer clear of when shopping.

I had this style, and they worked better than the Space Bags I got that you use the vacuum to get the air out. 

I've found that they don't work for very long, in most uses. The only thing I think is that at least everything in them was dust free, and kept from dampness/water if there was a leak or something. 

I still have many of them, but don't use them much any more.

I have purchased compression bags that go into a canvas storage totes from HSN and they all work wonderfully.  I keep extra linens in them in my RV and they don't have a problem staying closed and airtight.

I also have some in my home closets and never had a problem. They work as advertised.
