How do you measure someone's intelligence?

What makes you think, "now that's a smart person"?

I know there's IQ tests to measure that by, but in the common sense, everyday, how do you come to that conclusion?

I think this is a fair and interesting question. To me it is not all about the Intelligence Quotient. It is a mixture of that.... plus common sense ....plus awareness (some would call that "bright", I guess)

Talk to them for a few minutes and that will give you some idea.

Measure isn't the right word. Ok, say, just, what makes you say to yourself, gee, that person is pretty smart! (That's all).

I am another that thinks measuring intelligence isn't the whole story. I've met some who are not necessarily intelligent but their common sense and street smarts allow them to survive - sometimes better than the really smart ones.

We all constantly judge others whether or not we admit to it. When you meet someone and listen to them speak you will, consciously or unconsciously, form opinions about them. You may think how impressive a person is, or that they are dumber than dirt. You may think how much you like someone or gee, I gotta get away from this nut.

An intelligent person has doubts, questions, and tries to find solutions. An intelligent person knows that they do not know it all.

I agree. I know many very educated people that are actually ""dumb as a rock"" and vice versa.
