Re: How do you interpret this comment about bullying?

Trust a mom to know her child. There are things that go on at home that you don't know anything about. I also think that sometimes a ""bully"" personality can easily come out when goaded by other kids; sort of like mob mentality. It's a way of gaining attention & acceptance from the others.

I don't think all socialization is a good thing. There are positive environments and negative environments for all of us and most of us self-select the environment we feel is most beneficial for ourselves.

Not every environment is healthy. I would just be glad the woman is interested in the well being of her child and is doing her best to choose the right environment for her child. No one knows her child or her situation as well as the mother (or father).

I think you hit the nail on the head. The mother is very protective to the point of being too protective. The girl is outgoing and wants to be with other children but as some have said, the mother knows her child best. I just feel for the girl because she mentioned numerous times how much she wants to go to public school.

One poster said maybe it is a cultural thing, I know for a fact it is not.

LyndaGee said perhaps the the parents are one of those Helicpter parents...what is a helicopter parent? Anyone?

A helicopter parent is a parent who pays extremely close attention to a child's or children's experiences and problems, particularly at educational institutions. Helicopter parents are so named because, like helicopters, they hover overhead.

Thanks for explaining it to me, I have never heard that expression relating to children, interesting.

in my HO, I think it's good for children to have good experiences outside of home---they learn to know and accept differences---they won't always live at home--

I tend to agree with you sylviahomeat last. I don't know if the mother intends to home school her children through high school. Once children graduate high school one would hope they will go to college and if not, get a job. I believe going to public school teaches them how to interact with their peers because how will they know how to do that when they enter the workplace. Yes, parents have the fear of their child being bullied but what are the chances it would happen. We have many very good charter schools here, one of which Lindsay goes to and we don't worry about her being bullied. However, I can understand it if some parents feel more comfortable home schooling their children.
