How do you Address an Invitation...

How do I address an invitation to a good friend and her fiance? They are not living together and I'm sending the invitation to her address with her name.

Should I add him as a guest, like Mrs. Mary Smith and Guest? Or should I name him on the invitation? There is no inner envelope, it's a Sweet 16, not a wedding.

I'm not Emily Post and sometimes I don't know the correct etiquette, but I don't want to step on any toes. Thanks!

I don't know; maybe because he doesn't live at her address? I'm not sure lol

They've been together a few years and are engaged.

It just looked wrong somehow, as does "and Guest."

Thanks I am still oxox!

I think this is the way I would do it.

Re: How do you Address an Invitation...

I'd write "& Guest", for the sake of formality in writing, but then I'd hand it to her rather than mail it, if she's a good friend. And I'd say, "Here's an invitation for you and [his name], I do hope you can come, we're all looking forward to it".

I think you should address it to both even though you don't know if they're living together. They're a couple and if everyone knows that then I think it's the right thing to do.

Re: How do you Address an Invitation...

It's her fiance so they are an established couple. Address it to both names. It shows that you acknowledge the seriousness of their relationship. I remember when I had been seeing my man for several years, everyone knew it, and I was incensed when I would receive invitations saying "Ms. focksie and Guest".

Ms Mary Smith

Mr John Johns

that is how i would address it if you know his name, if not, then Ms Mary Smith and Guest is fine.
