My complaint has been the phones are so expensive. "Why aren't they required to include Instruction Book with it."
I am sick of these phones consuming my life. I have been considering going back to the basics.

Instructions can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website and installed on the phone.

The most recent thing I'm nervous about is - What if something happens & I lose all the Contacts in it?? That seems kinda irreplaceable, yet critical.
You can backup your contacts on an Android phone to the Google Drive. This is 15GB of free storage given to you with a Google account which includes an email address.
You will find videos on YouTube to backup the contacts to a Google Drive or Apple online.
Apple gives customers 5GB of free storage and you can purchase more from the company website.

Store of copy of the contacts file on another device or portable storage.

Thanks for the update on your nickname! I recognized your cute avatar, and thought that was you!
I find things out just by clicking on things.
What type of phone do you have? You may get more helpful answers if we knew.
I have an iphone and have it set up to back up automatically to icloud. One can also back-up manually as well, which, if you are nervous about losing content, you can do before clicking on random things.
Anything you back up to icloud or an external device (those are hard to use) can be easily recovered.
I always shop for my phone in the store and READ EVERYTHING ON THE SCREEN when I set up to set up the right options for me. It amazes me that people just click through without reading and expects everything to work smoothly. In setting up my phone in the store, I can always ask if I have questions. Some employees are rude and just grab my technology and start clicking without telling me what they are doing. I DON'T ALLOW THAT. I ask the employee to stop and ask them to tell me every step that they are doing it and how. Some of them don't like it, but that is their job in selling me the item, so I don't get upset if they are annoyed or angry, I just remain calm and persistent, and ask someone else to help if needed. I don't leave the store until I am comfortable with my phone. I have called customer service for help from inside the store. We have to remember that not all employees know everything (not even the experts on the phone, they look things up and ask for help, so be patient). I have realized some of the staff don't even have iPhones so don't have experiences to draw from.
I also went to the store for help once when my phone seemed frozen, because it's my only phone. It was an easy fix. It was during covid, and the guy watching the line to get in helped me. I asked him to tell me exactly what he was doing and how, and he did. He was kind.
If you are not phone savvy, I can tell you I have been surprised when I realize the million things I can do by swiping the screen, and that it matters from what position on the screen I do the swiping (different things happen from where in the screen one starts the swiping), and how much pressure one applies in the swiping.
I could see how this is challenging for people with limited dexterity.
Some apple stores offer classes on how to use the phones.
Also, lots of information available on the internet.
I just google the question of what I want to do or know, and I usually get pretty good instructions. But have to be mindful of what version of the phone and software one has, because things change.
Hope this helps.
So play with the phone I recommend, just click on things, but READ everything that pops up on the screen before proceeding. I just read about your eye surgery, so hopefully your eyes are working well! If not, maybe wait til they are.
Good luck!

@Catastrophe I think the book would be really big and add a lot of cost to pint and ship. And of course, the capabilites of the phone and the way it works changes all the time. One needs to ugrade. Do you want them to continuously ship you paper instructions?
The reason iphones are smart is that we don't have ttp take up space and carry in paper form all that knowledge around.
If you struggle, maybe a flip phone is a good idea as other posters suggest.

You didn't mention whether your phone is Android or Apple, but on my IPhone I have it set to save everything to iCloud once a day. So all of my contacts are on the cloud, able to be retrieved at any time. There's no 'losing' them. If a truck runs over the phone, those contacts could be downloaded onto a new phone. I have no one handy to show me how to do things on my phone so I use Google as some others have mentioned.

Hi @shoesnbags
Samsung Android - purchased thru QVC or HSN. (and keeping with Android upgrades & upgrades & upgrades thru the years).
Seems the world is *making me* use more Cell Phone capabilities as time marches on. And in a reluctant degree, Im very very grateful they're forcing me. But im facing "old dog, new tricks."
Offers Capabilities I never imagined in a tiny piece of electronic plastic that I can hold & carry around with me. (& drop occasionally)
For instance, Driving Instructions, (which replaces my old, now inadequate locational Tom Tom) heh
I am soooo incapable of finding my way somewhere, anywhere! My college buddy used to sweetly say: "You can get lost even in only a complete circle!" She was right. I did & still do!
Panicked, Ive even stopped & asked customers at unfamiliar Walmart parking lots, - "how do I get out of here?? The voice instructions on my Cell Phone wont work anymore since I got here!"
They are wonderful. But they keep pushing buttons on my Cell Phone, that if I were brave, maybe someday I'll get there too?? Finally we found it! phew!
But by no means, do I even have full use of Cell Phone capabilities - I suspect. But I'd like to somewhat get there. heh
