I have followed a bit of the Oregon trail from Baker City to Oregon City. Still ruts to be seem out there.
There is a steep grade, both ways, between La Grande and Pendleton. Even in a car it makes you ponder.

Hi @Kachina624 Thanks for another great topic & pic. ![]()
This thread's pic, scenario, reminds me of a Great Old Movie, (by Frank Capra), that I liked, titled "Westward the Women." (1951)
Movie: Upwards of 180 women, & very small handful of men, (incl "super hunk" Robt Taylor as Trailboss), came together, & struggled thru much hardship, traveling Cross Country, in order to be able to select & marry rumored awaiting men.
There was strife, resilience, courage, character, & romance.
For Personality Color, I remember a "Majorie Main (Ma Kettle)" kind of character, interestingly named "Patience.". heh She was an older lady who often "held the women together," with her gruff, "dont hold back," "take no prisoners" kind of attitude, incl in her talks, dealings to/with these numerous women." This came in really handy when dealing with the frequent strife among all these soo many m/f traveling ppl.
Given all the plethora of problems, you can imagine, these hopeful pioneers had virtually only one another, in order to make this nearly impossible, yet hopeful Pioneering move happen.
Enjoy! ![]()

@Still Raining Aren't those ruts something. I have seen ruts, and swails still 5 ft deep. Can you imagine back then some of the last pioneers had to go through them, and they were 6-7 ft deep. Obscuring light in the wagon for miles. I believe a full wagon averages 8-16 miles a day. The steep grade, must have been terrifying! Those poor oxen often just were injured or killed.

@JoyFilled Warrior The only thing I find so funny in some of the old westerns is the make-up! lol. Somehow they manage to wear lipstick, eye shadow and false eyelashes before it was invented or used! lol cracks me up. Oh, and not just westerns but movies of those days. Women woke up with a full face makes up to the nines. lol. I saw that movie years ago

Your picture was so interesting had to go look up it's history. Everwhere I look it says accout suspended. Is that just my computer. What is going on?
Is history really being erased?
You specifically said you can't help it. You are a woman who served in an elite force at a time when it was not an easy task. Do you really think those of us who remember should not say anything?

@hopi. Absolutely not; historical mishaps that are forgotten or ignored tend to be repeated. We learn from out mistakes.
