Re: How Often Do You Say "I Won't Eat That."?

I say no to a lot of things.

I definitely don't eat casseroles or anything made with canned soups or vegetables.   I don't like the texture of frozen meats and chicken either

I can't drink smoothies or milk shakes.   I just find the texture revolting.  Lol

@ECBG, Thanks for the mac and cheese recipe! I'll try it next time the grandkids come in. I have been using John McLemore's recipe and smoking it, but sometimes the kiddos don't like the smoke, so this would be a nice change.

@PA Mom-mom,Very welcome   Most younger children will eat deviled eggs but not potato salad which items are hard to ID.  I never cook extra, I expect them to try everything, but they can always depend on a giant pot of fresh green beans!

When they hit the driveway I usually hear "Gram, did you make green beans?"!!!....."and what else????????

@SeaMaiden,It's really hard to kill "good health".  Most people quickly realize that "high fat" choices will upset their stomachs.

Unfortunately I am type 2 diabetic so must count carbs carefully.

That being said, other than being deathly allergic to bi valve shellfish I am luckly able to eat everything else.

I avoid tripe, hominy, cows liver, brains, sweetbreads, and brussel sprouts.

I love to cook and adore eating and it shows.

Many thank yous to Logo for helping to hide my sins.

Really, there's very little I won't eat.  The items that elicit an immediate "ick!".

 Most come from healthy choices.

Re: How Often Do You Say "I Won't Eat That."?

I'm also Diabetic and say "I won't eat that" many times a day and won't.

When I'm offered something really off my list and say "no thank you" sometimes the hostess will get offended and I then I'll have to tell her I'm Diabetic and she'll say "well, just take another pill, it won't hurt..."  Aaargh.

My friends know and don't do this to me.... and the others will just have to "get over it" if I politely decline their wonderful treats/bread/sweet and I just hate having to explain why.... but I do.....

But as far as my liking most things out there... yes I do and I used to enjoy trying new things.  Now I eat pretty much the same things every day because I know they're ok and it works for me.  Woman Happy

@suzyQ3Good for your Hubby taking a stand for his health!  I find the thing about carbs is the more you eat, the more you want.  Once you cut out the processed breads and cereals it gets easier not to want them.  Theres so much good stuff out there to eat if you just give it a try.

I say "I won't eat that" if you put black pepper on it.  I can't taste anything but the pepper then.

@candys mine, thanks for the encouragement. I'll pass it on. :-) He's already lowered his blood pressure and cholesterol; plus, he is losing weight by eating smaller portions and exercising the dog more.

I have a very different philosopy. I think food is not only essential but very, very enjoyable. It can also be a wonderful social connection, such as our delightful restaurant meal last weekend to celebrate our daugher's birthday.

So while we do eat very healtfully, we don't isolate ourselves or view food in such a mechanical way.

No extremes; moderation in all things. We are all going to die. When I go, I would prefer to think that I enjoyed myself a little here and there rather than that I was perfect in my compulsion never to eat anything was not conducive to good health.
