I've done it before. Gotten Yankee Candles or Godiva Chocolate---that kind of thing. Who knows? Maybe it was already a re-gift.
So I'd give it as a 'side' gift to go along with the main present (that I bought with thought).
My MIL re-gifted me a wallet she received from a GF, I heard her complain about it (it was gray leather). I ended up getting it as my Christmas gift----wrapped in tinfoil.
Yes, tinfoil. I thought she made me loaf of Poor Man's bread. (That's the gift she gave her kids every year---each got a loaf of Poor Man's bread.)

I don't remember ever re-gifting. My husband and I did get a house warming gift from some friends that was a re-gift. The wife made a big deal about how she had been holding on to the gift for months while waiting to be invited to our new house. After they left my husband found a card inside the box that was written out to her and her husband for their wedding. They've been married for over 20 years! I guess it must have sat in her "gift closet". We had a good laugh. The kicker is that these people have loads of money and the gift was a plate that holds cheese and crackers (not included!). Oh well. It was the thought that counted, right?

Never! I put thought behind my gifts and think of each individual when I buy them. I may give someone something not to my liking and be upfront about it but would never regift it and lie stating it was from me. I'd rather give nothing than give something with no thought or care behind a gift even if it was lovely, expensive and something the person would love. You can give the unwanted gift to a person who might enjoy it but I could never disguise it as my Christmas gift. I've given many of mine away. I think it defeats the spirit of Christmas to deceive someone who you love or care about enough to place on your gift giving list.

I have had this growing supply in my closet added to every year from Aunts and so forth of candles, crystal candy bowls, bath/beauty products, stationary ect...... All those female type things you pick up in abundance to give out to lots of people on your lists.
On this past Thanksgiving week-end I took all to my DDIL and told her to do with or give to whoever was on her list of for Christmas, or just keep for herself or throw away. Everything still in boxes and pristine. Between all her female relatives and other RN's at the hospital she knew she would use the all. Now I have a big wide open space ready for refilling in my closet. Her list will be smaller and less expensive with a new baby coming in April.

My mom got a regift Saturday night at a Christmas party. It was a necklace from Premier Jewelry and it still had the price tag on it! Now that was tacky. And it came from the person in the group with the most money---while everyone one else purchased new gifts.
I have no problems with regifting as long as the item has never been used and there is some thought into it. I've done it here and there. This year, I had a pair of cute Christmas slipper socks that were too narrow for my feet, so I gave them to my neighbor along with a Skinn Cosmetics lip balm. My brother's birthday is Christmas Eve, so I'm giving him a gift card to Regal Cinemas I got from a coworker. It's a really nice present, but I don't drive so there's no way for me to get up to the movies if I wanted to. He does go to the movies, so now he can see the new Star Wars film.
