Re: How Hot Is It In The West?

It's going to be 120 in Arizona.  Our two dogs are going nuts because we can't take them outside; they don't understand why. I did take them out  for a few minutes around 9:00 a.m. when it was only 92.  Yuck!

It's the little things.

When I went out about half an hour ago to bring breakfast and clean water for the little birdies, it wasn't even 80 yet.   But, man, I just can't handle it.

If that weren't enough, then this bee starts flying around my head.  Well, anybody who's known me for more than 5 minutes knows that bees TERRIFY me.  Of course, then my temperature goes up quickly, too.  But I just started shaking and could barely put out the food and water before hauling it back in my house.  I swear - if I didn't have to go outside at all, throughout summer, I would not.

I even had to change my dentist appointments to April and October because I was on a Feb and July schedule and there was no way.  The Feb appointment was fine with me but in July - nope.

I'm the exact opposite.

I can't stand cold.  I think I'd be suicidal if I lived in a cold winter climate.  Or a recluse.

I can see how people hate hot hot weather.  Some how I can accept it.  lol.  The sun beating down on you isn't 'cool' for sure.  But if I'm in the water or in shade, I'm good!

Re: How Hot Is It In The West?

I remember Northern California and I remember not being able to hardly breathe in the heat during summer. I played outdoor sports and sometimes we'd have to cancel practices and games due to the heat. Triple digits for many weeks and often around 112. It was dry heat though and somehow much more tolerable than Arizona was with around the same temps. Not sure why but that was my experience. You'd have to live inside in Arizona for awhile whereas I could at least venture out for a bit in Nor Cal without it being too much.

However, I also remember a lot more rain during winter too. I remember a few times in the Valley our roads flooded to the point that people were using their canoes to get around (for fun, of course), seriously.

I DO believe in climate change, I DO believe humans are partially responsible but I also DO remember extreme heat back then, but also more rain than what they get now.  There is hardly a winter anymore. It seems there is only a summer and a Fall. I'd hardly call what Nor Cal gets a true winter now. At least not in the Valley. A bit different in the Sierra Nevadas and higher elevations but not in the Valley.

Re: How Hot Is It In The West?

Yesterday it officially hit 117 here in Vegas, although I'm sure there were areas of town that were hotter than that.  Today supposed to go to 113.  Yesterday it was so stifling, it was hard to breathe.

Wow, it's back.  Smiley Very Happy

The last two days we were supposed to have low to mid 90s.  But yesterday was 102 and the day before 101.   It really was never this hot this early on that I can remember and I've lived in and around Reno since 1980.

I just close up my house as much as I can, although I hate that most of the plants are not able to get light for a good bit of the day.  Smiley Sad

Supposed to be mid-90s here for the rest of the week.  Hope that doesn't mean 100s anyway, like the last couple of days.   First day of summer only today....be a long time until it cools down, I imagine.

We used to have a good 6 months of cold weather.  Oh, how I loved that!  I was at a crossroads some 30 years ago.  Could have gone back to CA or stay here.  I decided to stay here almost totally because of our cold climate and very short time of 'hot'.  Now it's opposite.

wahhh    end of whine.  Smiley Very Happy

@Tyak

We've heard it may be up to 120 in Phoenix today or tomorrow.  We have close friends there, one of whom is elderly and very ill.

I hope you will be OK in Vegas.

The heat inland can be bad, especially the East Bay, other areas, too.  But I don't remember it ever being 108 in multiple areas around here.

The weather reporters are saying it's record breaking.

We are getting warnings NOT to take pets outside, it's too much for them, you're on the right track!  Smiley Happy

@Noel7 back in the day, people would head to the coast and Bay area to get AWAY from the heat. Smiley Happy
