How about some QVC themed Olympic moments from us.![]()
OK, here you go! I am the sixth member of the US Olympic Women's Gymnastic Team. I'm the alternate but now I'm getting called to compete on the parallel bars. I swing from bar to bar, do amazing handstands, flip and fly but JUST as I'm sailing through the air to stick my landing I realize:
I FORGOT my Mally MORE IS MORE Mascara! To my horror if I stick my landing and the camera goes for a closeup, I won't have on my Mally Mascara! I will look like a normal person, not an Olympic gymnastics star. I am so horrified I miss my landing entirely, roll across the floor and take out three cameramen. It isn't my face
that gets the closeup. . .
No medal for me!

@Sooner. Did you ever catch any of the equestrian events? I just happened on the show jumping one morning and that was it. I don't know if the didn't televise the other events or I missed them.
Dressage is such a beautiful event, those riders train themselves and the horses and spend so much money getting them overseas, it's a shame the event doesn't get more attention. Americans don't know there's anything a horse can do but barrel race.
Id much rather see horses than all those sweating athletes.

Re Equestrian events, I love them. Getting horses trained and remain healthy is so costly and it is a shame events are not televised much in this country. The horses are just gorgeous. Regarding the dressage, that is something left over from the olden days when horses were used in warfare when it was important that horses respond to every little command the riders gave verbally or physically and it is indeed beautiful to watch. Some years ago they wanted to eliminate this event because Germany was the only country winning. But at least that has changed.
So, anyway my favorite fantasy olympic event did not happen in Rio but in Rome a few decades ago when I won all the track and field events Wilma Rusolph participaged in. She won the silvermedals while I did win the Gold.
Sadly I was not able to participate in Rio; they have age restrictions.

I'm watching the jumping now. I LOVE that! Do you ever watch western reining events? Those are wonderful too! I wish they would add that to the Olympics as I believe it is taking hold in Europe too
Once David Yurman, the jewelry guy, was taking a lesson from Lyle Lovett in OKC at a reining event. Hard to picture isn't it?
Also amazing is the cutting horses working cattle. And sometimes a lot of fat old guys managing to stay on those horses while they work! LOL!!!
My mother was always on the lookout for me trying to keep my saddle in my bedroom! I have NO idea why she would object to that. . . LOL!!!

@Sooner. I bet you loved and she hated the smell of it too. I've always loved the "horsey" smells.

@CLEM Are you saying you won an Olympic gold medal or that you fantasized winning it?
I've watched those dressage riders carefully and their signals to the horses are pretty much imperceptible. They make it look so easy; their riding skills are just perfect.

No, I never participated in any Olympics. Anyway, Wilma Rudolph won everything she participated in in Rome. She was great.
That was just a fantasy of mine. But I would just have loved to be there to have seen her.
