I might be able to handle a balloon ride if I were highly tranqualized and sitting on the bottom of the basket.  Otherwise, I'll wave from the ground thank you.

I am not crazy about airplanes, there is no way I would go on a hot air balloon!!  I would have a panic attack and hyperventilating the entire time from the height!!

Half way through the ride, I did sit down, I was so scared it was crazy, the basket only reaches to your waist, it's not as big as I thought the basket was going to be.

To me the flame wasn't as high as I would of liked it to be, I kept thinking what did I do and get me down.

...and who really checks ahead of time on the pilot, just like getting on a plane, going on a cruise, no one knows who you are going to have.

I'm afraid of heights and flying in an airplane is challenging.  Therefore, I'm definitely not brave enough to take a ride in a hot air balloon.

          I've flown in a hot air balloon in Albuquerque and also participated as part of the crew, to inflate the balloon and be in the "chase team" to retrieve it after landing.   It's a wonderful experience, the sound, the feeling, and the views are incredible, and I would do it again under the right circumstances.    They are dangerous, even with the best of pilots, because their ability to "steer" is highly impacted by so many uncontrollable factors.   The horrific crash in Texas this past weekend is a frightening reminder of the dangers.   I've read that the pilot had a history of DUIs, prison, and auto driver's license revocation and also there were many complaints against the company.    Anyone who does choose to fly in this type of aircraft needs to check up on the pilot and the company, first.   Rest in peace, to all those who lost their lives.

@dooBdoo,

I was a "chaser" too! It was so much fun. I learned a lot about ballooning and how really dangerous it can be.

About 15 years ago,when the Navy balloon team was based at China Lake, DH went up with the team and loved it! I worked just down the hall and they had room for me as well but DH thought who would pick up our son at school.  At least if something had happened I would still be around to raise our son.

@Stray It seems that we're sometimes on the road between NY-NJ-PA and see the balloons from the Readington show, an there's nothing I love more than seeing the balloons, but definitely not for me.

I have have plenty enough trouble staying on my feet on the ground.

@violann- it is a beautiful sight....I love the quietness of a ballon ride...the one over Africa was my favorite.  I love to fly even commercially.  My DH on the other hand won't get in that basket and only flies commercially because he can't drive or walk thereSmiley Happy

LOL- I may wave to your DH when I pass him walking down the road!

Unfortunately for him, MY DH also loves to travel and loves to drive to far away places.

NOT ME! I love to be home where my instruments and stuff are.

I often feel bad for him, but other than this point, we're pretty well matched!
