Thank you.  I was a secretary and went to school for word processing, and was an English major.  I guess that is my reasoning.  People in public speaking should know how to speak correctly.

@luvmybeetle  I agree w/you.  I always liked English in school, was a scretary, too, and it drives me crazy the way some people speak.

@Patriot3 - How about when they misspell something?

Just joking. 😉

Is  this about grammar or regional pronunciation? How do you say roof?

Maybe it's a regional thing, but I cringe every time Amy pronounces cashew as cash shoe.  She says it every time.

@Biftu As opposed to "cash you"?

Be careful when picking on Amy.  Years ago I critiqued/criticized the way she said something and I got jumped on as people defended her because she supposedly has a speech impediment.  I don't know if she does or not, but that's what happened.

@JeanLouiseFinch  I can accept the criticism.  I wasn't aware she may have a speech impediment. To my ears I guess she might. My apologies in advance if that is the case.

Smiley EmbarassedI think that texting causes lots of us to become lazy. Trying to minimize the key strokes? What is bizarre for me is that I will sometimes be talking to somebody that makes me want to laugh and I have been known to SAY"lol" instead of laughing. Now THAT is just bad!

Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

Speech and language are different entities. Many of these posts confuse the distinction. This thread started out to be about language, not regional variations in pronounciation, or speech. Amy's pronounciation of "cashew" has nothing to do with a speech "impediment," or, as it is also called, an articulation disorder.

What I do about the poor English and unpleasent voices is to mute the lot.
