Just what is going on in horse racing? I happened to come upon a race at Saratoga after the Green Bay game was over on our local channel. I did a search to get the name, I was so shaken up. To my surprise, a "horse euthanized" search brings up instance after instance of this happening. Today the winning horse fell in the home stretch and the camera left the shot immediately. It took many minutes and commercial breaks before the veterinarian in charge announced they had put the horse down. I will never watch another race.

Hate horse racing. Should be banned. Cruel and abusive.

I totally agree with you, it's animal abuse, plain & simple, just so some so-called humans can bet on them, to make money.
I'm surprised that PETA hasn't been all over them, but maybe they have and I just haven't heard about it.
So shameful and some call it a 'sport'. I bet it's not a 'sport' to the horses.

The Travers--a very prestigious race--was supposed to be on Fox but it isn't. Now I know why.

I wish horse racing was banned in this country.
It is disgustingly cruel and abusive to the animals.
Sickening.

It's been written a dozen horses died related to the Kentucky Derby this year alone. Two died leading up to the Belmont. One had to be euthanized on the track at the Preakness. Two died at Saratoga. In 2022, over 900 Thoroughbreds died from various causes, many of them race or training related and STILL nothing meaningful is done. Yes, the alleged 'sport' should be banned, not just regulated but BANNED. Gamblers will have to find something else to bet on. Attendees will need to find another venue for which to dress up and look ridiculous.

It happens all the time, doesn't it? Sometimes there's a hue and cry, but most often there isn't.

There are many reasons reasons for the number of horses being euthanized.
1. Trainers start racing horses between 2-3 years old which is too young.
The horses are unable to withstand moving at such speed when they are so young and underdeveloped. They are pushed to exhaustion. The repetitive percussive drill of training and running kills some of them, and ruins others for life.
2. Drugging is also a huge problem. Horses become addicted and Trainers use drugs for pain so the horses can run in a race when they shouldn't be.
3. Also, these horses are bred to have long, thin, thin legs so they can run faster and consequently their legs break easily; wild horses have shorter legs.
Horse racing needs to be banned worldwide. It's a very cruel sport and the lives of race horses are short.
About 2,000 race horses die at tracks in this country every year either running in, or being trained to race at tracks.
Horrendous, evil sport.
