Hi @manny2 I know people have problems. I just don't know that they are being handled in the best interests of the people involved. Wendy Williams has Graves disease, and I think she was abusing alcohol. Her son was mismanaging his finances and contributed to her problems, so I don't trust him. I don't trust any of these people. I just hope for the best. I have never watched her show, or heard her on the radio. I just know she is a local personality, with problems, like all of us.

Once they got her sober of course she is going to be more stable mentally and on her feet. That is what we saw as she was being escorted by police.
I think the family wants to get her back before the money runs out. Do they have ill intent. Who knows. Depending on where she is staged with dementia, if advanced she is in the best place. A lockdown for dementia patients sounds terrible to us. But it is freedom for them to move around. They get frustrated if they have to be redirected.
So, to protect her she has a guardian. I also think she has dementia but has moments where she can fool you. I have worked with these patients. They have moments of clarity and seem perfectly normal. It will take a lot more testing to determine if she is competent, not just a mini mental they give in the hospital.
hi @manny2 We don't know if she has dementia. She denies it and sounds lucid, even under her terrible circumstances. She is careful with what she says, which is not how someone with dementia behaves. Misdiagnosis do happen. I don't know why anyone would trust a bank to protect a person more than her family. I don't know of any bank that has protected anyone other than themselves. The bank and the guardian want her money too. This has happened to other well off people. This could be another Britney Spears type situation, except with Britney, it was her parents who exploited her. Hopefully things get worked out.
I hope they get it worked out too @NYCLatinaMe . But keep in mind her son confirmed she was diagnosed with dementia. He was told it was alcohol induced. So, I am inclined to think she has it. We just don’t know how advanced it is.
The family was part of the problem skimming her fiancés. I think her son was in control at the time. It might have just been a very young person in control of all that money spending wild.
When she talked about her finances on her show. She kept a close eye and was tight with them. So, once she was incapacitated, he was able to spend. The bank flagged that. I think it was a good thing.
There must be more to the story, her sister is an attorney. She should know how to get through the red tape.
As for Brittney Spears, that conservatorship saved her. She is mentally unstable. She needs someone at the helm.
I agree the family is the best caretaker, if they are doing what is in their best interests.
I have worked with dementia patients and families. Many are in denial. They do not understand the gravity of the disease. Sometimes dementia patients are better off in a facility.
Does that mean that when she stops drinking she will be back to normal?
My Gram had dementia and yes, there are moments of clarity and you become so hopeful, like maybe it was all a mistake and she was fine after all but then they go right back into the sickness and your hopes are dashed. It's a cycle from he11.
No, not necessarily. It depends on how much damage was done. If she gets the support she needs and remains alcohol free this type of dementia can be somewhat reversed, again depending on where she is staged.
She appears more cognitive because she has stopped drinking. So, her stamina and mental clarity have stabilized. She needs further testing.
They do an extensive assessment to diagnose Frontotemporal Dementia. That is what she was diagnosed with under the care of her guardian. So, I imagine they will appoint an independent team to reassess her.
The main challenge for her is staying away from alcohol. No matter what dementia she is diagnosed with.
