Wow, I come from a huge firefighting family and never knew there was a Day for them. That's wonderful.
My dad, 2 brothers, nephew, cousin, daughter-in-law, son, and sister-in-law are or were firefighters. They all personally know of a firefighter killed in the line of duty. Not one of my relatives would think twice about rushing into fire to save people. In fact, they have done so.

@willomenia I suggest watching the true story movie Only the Brave. Or read up on "Remembering the Five Firefighters Killed 15 Years Ago in the Esperanza Fire".
If you have any heart you would change your mind about honoring this profession.

Another day! Why do we have to honor people for doing their jobs. I'm grateful for firemen, but it's a profession like any other.
@willomenia . That's a shame you don't make the distinction between a profession like any other and firefighting.
They risk their lives for you and all others as was mentioned by another poster.
Gratitude can heal a lot, works in all areas, family, friends, professions etc.

Yes it's a job. They made this their choice. So please stop with the hero attitude. I stated before I'm grateful there are people who want to do this, I wouldn't choose this profession. They however, did. Get real people

Wow!
Not too long ago, we were jolted awake by an explosion, the likes of which I've never heard. Firefighters were there already toiling at an extremely dangerous and nearly fatal home fire, which also destroyed two neighboring houses. I also live in an area where many fire fighters live.
Of course they chose their profession, so do police, doctors, nurses and other people who serve. They could have become lawyers or accountants, but those people do not save lives while risking their own. Not to mention those brave souls that serve as volunteers.

I'm a proud Mama of a Firefighter/Medic!

@willomenia In line with your thinking, this sentiment must be the same for military and police.
It is very sad you do not grasp what these brave men and women sacrifice to keep us safe.

They don't sarafice anything, they made a choice for their occupation, it's a dangerous risky one, and BTW I never said I didn't respect whatever do. That's the nature of the job. I'm sure they knew that going in.
