I use GMAC for Home, find out its Homesite insurance. I tried to put a rider on my policy for my jewelry and was denied because of a claim. I have NEVER had a claim. After 3 phone calls I found out that because I called to find out if my laptop that was lost during shipping was covered, I am being denied coverage. I said wait I had a rider on my policy because it was a expensive laptop. It was shipped DHL back to Dell during the last few days DHL was in business (Something I fought Dell about) Dell told me I had to wait to hear from DHL, DHL never answered the phones as they were done. So I said to the supervisor at Homesite I called because I wasn't sure if anyone was going to replace it and I wanted to know if I was covered. She said I had called the claims dept. I said yes because it was an unusual situation, I wasn't robbed on the street, my house wasn't broken into and I didn't lose it. The woman said she couldn't help me and transferred me to the claims dept. I NEVER collected anything and Dell replaced my computer. THAT gives me a negative mark on my report? Yes it does and it can't be removed for 5 years (its been 3) So I said if a tree falls on my roof and I call to find out if its covered and later my husband tells me there is no damage will that give me a negative on my policy? She said YES!!!
I have called and spoken to supervisors. The bottom line is I have a "CLAIM" on my report thru Transunion and A+ credit bureau and I never had a claim. Only Homesite can remove it and they won't. So how am I suppose to insure my jewelry? These are reports other companies check. We also have GMAC for years for our cars and well DH said we need to change both. I certainly am not comfortable with a homeowners policy that are blatant liars. Oh the best part is I told the woman I am very leery now if something were to happen to my home whether it would be covered. I said wouldn't you? She said yes!!
