I'm in NE PA. Man, that temp dropped like a rock. With the wind chill it is to be -4 in the morning.
My pesky insomnia is in overdrive so I'm up listening to my furnace running like Usain Bolt.
DD set up the outside cats winter shelter. She has 2 large totes under the table on the side porch. She taped the lids and cut holes in one end. Put straw inside for them. She has sheets of insulation on the floor under the table and put straw on top of that. Covered the whole shebang, totes and all, with a heavy duty tarp and cut a hole just big enough for them to go in. She also put in a couple heating mats. They have a dry place to go in and are out of the elements. It helps the side porch has a roof and a gate. In the am when she feeds them she also gives them some cat milk and adds some warm water so that they have something warm in their stomachs. They love that stuff.
Their shelter doesn't look great but their comfort and safety in this weather is more important than the porch being picture perfect.
We have 7 full time cats and 1 guy that shows up from time to time. 4 of the full timers are siblings. 2 are orange and 1 gray and 1 gray and white. Cute as heck. They are almost a year old. Mom is there too.We have 2 other orange boys. Why are orange boys such lovable goofballs? We have quite the crew.
Everyone stay warm and safe.

Speaking of insomnia, lol. Its 0430. Your DD is an angel for seeing to the safety and comfort of the kitties. People who treat animals humanely, with love, are the best.

I agree here south of you in Pa.. Furnace just keeps running. Just can't wait to see that gas bill. Your daugher is like my sisiter with the cats. She has around 15-20 ferals that she takes care of everyday. She even goes around and cleans up after them in the neighbors yards, so many thanks, too, to your daughter for being so kind.BTW, glad to see you here again. Miss the Petunia stories, @CrazyKittyLvr2 .

Hey, I'm up too! How kind of your daughter, @CrazyKittyLvr2. We've had numerous cats over the years but the most at one time has been four. Right now we only have two. I would love more, but DH has put his foot down.
It's cold here also. Currently -2*F, but feels like -5*F. It'll warm up to 28*F this afternoon but will feel like 18*F
I'm in a crazy sleep pattern lately. DH likes it cool in our bedroom and I'm always cold so I want it warmer. When I wake up for the bathroom I convince myself that sleep is no longer happening and I come downstairs. Redoing our fireplace and putting in an insert with a remote control was one of the best home improvements we've done. Funny, our cats like the warmth of the fireplace too. They go nearby, stretch out and stay there for hours.
When I get up during the night, I'll make about 1/2-3/4 pot of coffee but I'll make myself wait until 4:00AM. I'll have a mug or two but I can still fall back asleep if I get tired again. Since I don't finish all that I make, I'll put it in a thermal pot then get the coffeemaker set up for DH so all he has to do is push the button.

It's supposed to reach 35 degrees today so we'll see some people without coats and even some shorts.
We are expecting another blizzard tomorrow and temps will drop back down to low single digits before wind chill.

I just came in from feeding the outdoor kitties. Yes 42 is cold for us.

I am just waiting for spring. I hate cold weather and it's just getting started.
It's freezing in central PA too.
We have a neighbor who takes care of the feral kitties in my neighborhood. He leaves his garage door up part way so they can get inside all year around.
My heart goes out to homeless people and pets. There are plenty everywhere.
