A beautiful rosary is always nice. A local Catholic church or religious store will carry them, or you can always check online.

I would suggest a gold or silver cross, on the small size, that she will have for the rest of her life. 

I wore my father's gold cross all my life.

Arent't rosaries given with a prayer book as part of the first communion ceremony?   I know we always got those.  She will probably get enough religious articles that will just sit in a drawer.  I think the earring suggestion was a good one if she has pierced ears.  It's always good to stick with a gift card or money unless you know there is something she would definitely like.

keep in mind, they are usually just 7or 8 years old..the web site have cute, age-appropriate, woven bracelets, with small crosses/ medals on them. I notice a lot of my granddaughter's friends wearing them.

@Plaid Pants2  Your ideas are lovely.  When I made my first Communion my Godfather gave me a beautiful sterling silver/marcasite cross pendant.  My cross is now very close to 50 years old.  I still have it.

I got the little prayer book and rosary beads from the church, they have now cut back......nothing.
