Watching clips of Lincoln brought to mind that Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln does not sound anything like the voice I imagined Lincoln to have had. That thought progressed to Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar more or less had the tone and timbre that I would associate with the voice of Caesar. Next on the list is Charlton Heston as Moses but I'm unsure whether I really think the voice of Moses is like Heston's or if I think of Moses sounding like Heston because of familiarity.

Have you ever wondered about the voices of historial figures, for example those I've already named, George Washington, Napoleon, a multitude of others whose voice preceded audio recording?

Would you imagine Joan of Arc's or Cleopatra's voice to sound like a songbird or Margaret Thatcher? Would Attila the Hun be as frightening if he sounded like Tiny Tim as opposed to Sam Elliott?

Has anyone else ever wondered about this? Please share your thoughts.
