A 16-year-old student who allegedly assaulted a teacher at a high school in Las Vegas has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes, authorities said.
Last week, police were called to a high school in the area around 3:30 p.m. local time on a report that the student — whose identity has not been released — had injured a teacher, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.
Though authorities did not reveal the name of the school in their statement, Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara confirmed the attack occurred at the Eldorado High School in a note sent out to employees.
According to police, officers received a report of an injured female teacher, and when they arrived at the school they found the staff member being treated by medical personnel for "multiple injuries." Police noted that the individual, whose identity has also not been released, was hospitalized and is in stable condition.
The LVMPD's sexual assault section investigated the scene and found that the teacher was in her classroom when the student reportedly came to her to discuss his grades. Police said that the suspect then allegedly "got violent and began punching the victim" at one point, before reportedly strangling her "until she lost consciousness."
After the incident, police discovered that the alleged perpetrator left the classroom, and the teacher was later found by another school employee.
The alleged suspect was then identified during the investigation, police said, and was taken into custody and transported to the Clark County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, sexual assault, battery with intent to commit sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping and robbery.
No other information surrounding the incident has been released. Lawyer information for the alleged suspect is not currently available.
"I want the Eldorado family to know that this is an isolated incident. The suspect was arrested, thanks to the quick work of CCSD Police.Eldorado is an amazing school with students and staff who are here to support each other," wrote Eldorado High School Principal Christina Brockett in a letter to parents. "While it will take time, we will work through this and emerge a stronger Sundevil family."
In a statement to staff members at the Eldorado High School, which was obtained by PEOPLE, Superintendent Jara wrote, "The safety of every Clark County School District (CCSD) student and employee is our top priority."
"I am devastated, and the CCSD family hurts for the teacher assaulted at Eldorado High School," he continued. "Our hearts are heavy because of the violence committed against her, and we pray for her full recovery."
Added Jara: "As I have said previously, 'Violent acts, assaults, and bullying will not be tolerated in the Clark County School District, and those who choose to engage in these activities will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.'"
Anyone with information tied to the incident is asked to contact the LVMPD's sexual assault section at 702-828-3421.

Kidnapping?
"Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

@Mz iMac I think in many jurisdictions, if a person is detained against his will, its considered kidnapping.

Why bring this issue to the table as you will end up saying people are being political if is they respond honestly on the cause and possible ways to remedy these types of horrific school violence. .
I gave up on public school systems long ago when they stopped saying the pledge of allegiance and took prayer out of the schools . Public schools have become a waste of millions of dollars of our tax money .

Yes, I think so because he kept her against her will to manhandle her. If she couldn't get away from him. That should be a kidnapping charge too, imo.

@Kachina624 You are correct. No jurisdiction in the US allows kidnapping. It's a federal crime too.

I read a couple articles on this. There have been over 3,000 incidents of violence in that school district this school year. It seems that the superintendent removed expulsion as a consequence (before the pandemic) for battery against a student or staff member, drugs, etc. With these results, it would also seem that they need a new superintendent. His words are empty. That poor teacher!

Then why is it ok for others such as Morning Lover to bring up these kinds of crimes and you don't complain about that @skatting44 . Selective crime?

It's probably a less than "elite" school district to begin with. Public Schools are run by people who are in it for the pay to play and to get things they want. Especially some administrators. I look at the public school system where I live, one of the largest in the country and it's bad. Some schools are better than others, meanwhile their are too many higher ups and not enough workers.

@skatting44 The Pledge is fine but I don't think prayer is in public schools. When I was in school in the dark ages the teacher read from the Bible, we said the Lords Prayer, etc. I think we were all Christian. Now there are more students in schools that are a different religions. So just keep the Pledge, but I don't think they do that either.
