I have heard you talk about squirrels-guessing you like them? Me, too. Well, I was just sitting watching their activity yesterday-they were feeling frisky from the warmer weather and were all over the place. I saw them so busy and was thinking, maybe these are the youngsters foraging for their mom and pop. Then I was thinking, where do they go to die? I've never seen a squirrel who has gone to squirrel heaven. Whaddya think?

How can you "see" a squirrel go to squirrel heaven?
Do you reside in "squirrel heaven?" If not, I have to wonder what it is that you are talking about.

I'm sorry. When a squirrel goes to squirrel heaven, that means he's dead. I have never seen a dead squirrel. I wonder where they go to die. Your name belies your personality. Boy did I get a wrong number.

I have seen one, Judaline. I was removing leaves one spring that had blown beside the wall to the basement door. I am presuming that he crawled into the pile of leaves to die.

I have seen dead squirrels all over the roads all the time.

Before we had the snow and snow storms, I used to have a squirrel every day to sit in front of my window on the ledge, and I live 7 high downtown in D.C. due to the snow the scent is gone, so now it is a dead situation in front of my windows. I do have a lot of blue birds in the tall tree reaching above my windows, and the other day i learned that in d.c. there are a lot of snow owls. I wondered whether i had one, nice and frumpy and fat, in the evening when dark. Not seen this guy since, so now i don't know...

O...kay...
I wasn't sure what you meant.
It never occurred to me that you were just talking about a squirrel dying, and where do their bodies go...because I've seen several dead squirrels over the years; it never occurred to me that you'd never seen one.
The answer to your question, I believe, is that squirrels are like most other mammals; when they feel sick or weak, they retreat to a safe shelter so that they are not vulnerable to predators. If a squirrel can't make it up a tree he/she will find shelter elsewhere until he/she either feels better or dies.

You're a good person, sylvia!!! ![]()
