Is anyone familiar with USPS delivery status and how it's updated?
I was expecting a delivery and I go to stamps dot com to check the delivery status. The day of delivery at 7:30AM the status was "out for delivery". At 7:45AM the status was "delivered". This isn't possible because 1) I don't live anywhere near the PO and 2) the mail is always delivered in the afternoon. I heard the mail box open at 3PM and the mail truck drive off. I go to my mailbox and there isn't any package. This is not the first time this happened (I eventually get my package) and it's always on a Saturday. It's a jewelry item and I don't think the vendor fully disguises the name on the package so it's rather easy to tell it's jewelry.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here?

The best explanation I can give is based on experience I've had with a substitute driver. She would scan in the delivered code at the beginning of the route even if it meant delivery was hours later. Against the rules but this particular carrier believed the rules only applied to others. She is no longer a USPS employee.

Thanks Marp. That must be what is happening with the scanning of the delivery code.
But I wonder why I'm not getting my package until several days later?
I filled out the USPS online report an issue form. I tried to call the PO but their line is always busy.

Unless you have an extraordinarily customer oriented Postmaster/mistress online complaints are the way to go. Online causes accountability so things aren't likely set aside.
Even with the early code entry you should have gotten your package today. I hope you included the fact that you didn't in your complaint.

Don't call the toll free post office number, try and obtain your local post office number and call over and ask where is the package?

I gave them the timeline of what it says on stamps dot com and told them I didn't get my package.
Jazzmom the last time this happened I called USPS and was told the supervisor at my local PO would call me. He did call and left a VM message to call him back. I've been trying to get ahold of him for literally three weeks. Every time I call the number is busy.

That's awful!! I would call in the AM and see what happens. I hope you get your package soon.

Thanks! It isn't an expensive item but I would like to know what's going on.

They had one of my packages held up for 3 or 4 days once. I kept calling them and it was finally delivered. I never was given a proper explanation for it. Our branch is just awful. Our neighbors have experienced many problems as well.

How frustrating colliemom. It isn't like we have much of a choice for mail delivery either.
