Re: Help With A Math Problem!

[ Edited ]

Regular price is about $200:
50% of $200 = $100

1/2 that would be another 25% = $50

Another way to verify:

25% off $200 = $50

$49 would be 1/4 of the value, so value would be $196.

ETA:  $49 x 4

I read the problem and immediately my mind glazed over lol!  I wish you had been my math teacher, @wildcat fan !

Re: Help With A Math Problem!

@CLHS68 Is correct.

We know that if we take 100% of the price and subtract 75% from it, we will be left with 25% of the the full price.

$49 = 25% of the full price.

So, $49 = 1/4 of the full price, because 25%, or 25/100 can be reduced to 1/4.

You then set up an equation.  49 = 1          X is the number we want to determine.

                                                 X     4

Then, you cross multiply and get 1X = 49 times 4, or X = 196

So, the full price is $196.00.

@Sheila P-Burg

@Love my grandkids

.75x = 49

divide both sides by .75

49/.75 = 65.3333333

$65.33 = original price

But, the $49 is only 25% of the original price, not 75% of the original price.   It is 75% OFF that comes to $49.

Re: Help With A Math Problem!

Thanks to all who got the right price of $196. I know someone who was able to get the original price which was $195!

Thanks to all and I knew $66 and change was not the price.

I must say thanks to the OP for this as it took me longer to figure out than I thought it would and realized I need to work more on my math skills!

I've never been good with percents, and use this type of calculator often, especially at work.

If it was a multiple choice question, I'm sure we all would have come up with the right answer.   Smiley Embarassed

You can divide 75 by 49.  Not saying that it would give you a good answer but it is possible to divide 75 by 49.  There! Does that help?  Woman Frustrated  Woman Wink

You now have the sum total of my math skills!  I can't do math even with a calculator!
