I'm usually good at what I call "regular" math but never can figure out this kind of thing, never could in school either:

A merchant is offering something for $49 which is 75% off the regular price.

How do I figure out what the regular price is? Thanks!

Re: Help With A Math Problem!

I would say the regular price would have been $196. But with new math who knows.

Re: Help With A Math Problem!

Would you add $36.75 to the $49.00 to get the original price?

The original price would be around $66.00.

From what must be the answer guess you can tell math isn't my specialty!

Math, never liked it but for some reason I love numbers...doing a budget, reconciling 3 checkbooks every month..etc., etc.

I find it funny there are several answers to this question...I will not even try to figure out what the price should be.

CLHS68 is right---it's $196.

$49 would be 1/4 of the value, so value would be $196.

ETA:  $49 x 4

Re: Help With A Math Problem!

Evidently, the $49 is 25% of the regular price. I would multiply the 49 by 4 and come up with $196.

Re: Help With A Math Problem!

Yup - $196 is right.

If you take that times .25 it comes out to the $49.
