My mother was pretty loyal to certain brands, as am I. Hellman's is preferred in this house, but mom always bought the Kroger brand of salad dressing or mayo.

Someone should do a taste comparison...

When Best Foods acquired the Hellmann's brand, it decided to preserve the respective recipes for both mayonnaises. Today, the two products are made in the same plant. However, at least as recently as June 2003, the recipes were almost identical. From the company's FAQs at the time:

The products are basically the same. Both trademarks evolved simultaneously – Hellmann's in the East and Best Foods in the West. Taste preferences vary; some people find that Best Foods mayonnaise is slightly more tangy

To the OP, looks like this subject got quite a BIT of traffic, lol. Just goes to show that your fellow posters are quite passionate about their mayo!

Used Hellman's for many years, until I tasted Duke's. Also like their mayo with the pickle in it....sandwich spread, I believe.

I used to use Best Foods, but now I use Trader Joe's Organic mayo. It's really good!

We grew up with Miracle Whip in our family. That is what I still use, unless a recipe calls for real mayonnaise specifically. In that instance, I would buy Kraft mayo.
