Always have my son check the heating system in the house a few weeks before it starts getting cold here in New Jersey. I have a boiler not a furnace because I have baseboard hot water heat.
My son did check the unit around the middle of October and all 4 heating zones worked. Went to turn the heat on last night because it was getting cold and nothing! Had my son check the boiler and he said none of the zones were opening. Not sure if PSE&G when they were working on the gas pipes and smart meters a few weeks ago on my street and had to turn off the gas at times, if that might have been the cause of the heat not turning on now.
The heating system is not new and original to the house, so it might just be time to replace it. Will know more tomorrow when the gas company comes to check it out. In the meantime, I have my heavy sweatpants and sweatshirt on and a big pot of chicken soup going on the stove. A bowl of hot chicken soup helps everything!!!

Have you contacted your neighbors to see if they have heat? I wish it was cold enough here to need heat. We're still using air conditioning. We were cheated out of a fall and I'm not holding my breath for any winter to speak of.

@ciao_bella That stinks!
We have slowly been renovating the house (have been working on it for the last 4 years) and my fear is once we are done in another year or two, the furnace along with the central air will die and we'll have to replace it.
It's about 14 years old now and they cost so much to replace.
I hope yours is a simple and quick fix!

@monicakm Yeah...asked my neighbor and his heat is working just fine.

We just replaced our Trane HVAC (heat pump) this summer. It served as well for 24 years. We didn't go with another Trane but I wish we had. We're not having problems with what we do have but as the commercial says, " Nothing Stops a Trane". The new unit has a 10-year warranty. This was my husband's decision, I sure hope we don't live to regret it.

@haddon9 Hoping it's some relay switch or other minor issue, but not putting any bets on it. A boiler heating system is more expensive to replace than a gas fired furnace to replace. I just replaced one of the 2 central a/c units last year and that was $8,500. To replace this boiler system with 4 heating zones would be about $15,000 or more. Ugh!

@ciao_bella That's terrible. Sorry! I hope the gas company finds a small quick, cheap fix.

Fingers are crossed that it is an easy (and inexpensive) fix for you.

@ciao_bella OMG! So expensive! I hope it's not that.

@monicakm Ten years seems like a long time until time suddenly passes quickly! fingers crossed that your unit lasts!
A furnace and AC is a necessity but not what I like to spend a lot on!
