Health Care Workers Lose Jobs

The latest is that many workers who are not involved with Clovid are losing their jobs.  The hospitals are not making money from their departments.

Can we really kick around these people any more?

I was at a large dermatology clinic a couple weeks ago and had the only car in the parking lot.  All the employees, and there were many, were basically twiddling their thumbs.

It is terrible. People are still going to have emergencies unrelated to coronavirus. Also I have heard they are letting go of a lot of the mental health personnel. A lot  of companies now can do mental health counseling over the phone. I think its terrible. So many people losing their jobs.

My sister is a lab supervisor in a hospital.

She works many, many hours without pay.

(salary is lovely that way.  People call off and the hours must be filled. So she does it.  She gets paid the same working 40 hours or 140 hours.  The same for DH who works for the same hospital)

I saw on the news that healthcare workers in other specialties were being asked to help out in ICUs and ERs. I also heard some volunteers from other areas are coming into NYC to help.

This week the city is predicted to have its peak. My son works 8 of the next 9 days.

You would think that in addition to bringing back retired healthcare professionals, those professionals in fields that aren't critical right now would be re-deployed to other over-stressed areas.

This is what it looks like around here.  Even the hospital's parking lot is practically empty.  Same goes for the other parking lots like dermatology, dentists, physcial therapy, etc.

Re: Health Care Workers Lose Jobs

My PT clinic is down to minimal staff and patients. Elective surgeries postponed, cancellations, and need for social distancing.

Hospital parking lots empty because most allow no visitors, with just a few exceptions. ER visits actually way down because only the sickest and most critical are there (actually the way ERs were intended to be).

It’s deceptive. Once you get past public areas and onto the units it’s very stressful.
