Two
Last I heard, one may hit Hilo. Hilo is such a beautiful area and on my favorite island. I think we have at least two people from this board who live in the islands, I hope they will be OK.

Praying for their safety as well as everyone on the islands. So thankful that my niece and her boys have moved back to Florida. They miss Hawaii and I'm sure they are scared for their friends. Be safe everyone!

Hi Preds
I didn't see that terrier already has a line about the hurricanes and replies there.
We might want to all go over to that conversation.

Hi Noel! See ya' there.

I think maybe yours has the more accurate headline.

Aloha NoelSeven - Yep, I'm one of them. You can see my posts on the other thread.
These Subject Titles are not quite accurate or complete. I guess that is how the national media is reporting it?
The Big Island of Hawaii and the State of Hawaii are not the same thing. The Big Island is first in line to be hit by this hurricane. And it is correct that The Big Island has not had a direct hit from a hurricane before. But the state of Hawaii has. The last one, and worst one, was Iniki in 1992 that was a Cat 4 and slammed Kauai.
I am on Maui and we are next in line in the island chain. We are hoping it downgrades by the time it reaches us. We will definitely have damage though. All islands will.

Hope you will stay in touch Mrs. Sweetiebear. We will be thinking of you.
Edited my post after I figured out what the difference is.

Sorry scottie. Yes, the Big Island of Hawaii is a part of the state of Hawaii. But when people say "Hawaii" they mean the state. When they mean the island, they say The Big Island or Hawaii Island or Hawaii County. Oahu is the main island or most populated island. "My" island, Maui, is between The Big Island and Oahu.

MrsSweetieBear, my thoughts are with you. What a shame if you were to lose your big trees (hopefully not your house), but the main thing is that you and MrSweetieBear stay safe!

Why Is This? Hurricanes were originally from the Atlantic - that's how I learned things.
Typhoons were for the Pacific (same thing) and that was the name give to the storm. When did things change or does the media not know this?
