@gellen I know what you mean. Living alone now, coupled with the lovely virus, I've started to feel like a hermit.
Fully vaccinated, now, I've had a couple of social activities, but confess that I was anxious to be back out on the scene. But, after about 15-20 minutes to warm up to the group, I actually relaxed and had a good time.
So what you're feeling is not unusual. There will likely be other people there who feel the same way. We often think we're the only one with social anxiety.
You'll be just fine and might really enjoy the event. Just try to stay safe with the bad weather and COVID.

I have a wedding to attend today in the middle of the blizzard. I must admit that I am a bit nervous not because of COVID so much as having to socialize with people again on that kind of setting. I live alone and don’t get out that much so this will be the first on a long while. Wish me luck
It always helps to pay someone a compliment and then ask something about whatever it was you complimented. Buys you a little time (if you need it) to decide what to say next.
When I was a teen I read Barbara Walters book "How To Talk To Absolutely Anybody About Anything". It helped a lot.
Good luck. ![]()

Sure wish I'd have read that book when I was young.
When I was 22, I landed a job in a Congressman's office and spent most of my time being terrified to talk to anyone.
However, the one thing that helped me before I learned my way around was a quote from Helen Gurley Brown:
"Never fail to know that if you are doing all the talking, you are boring somebody."

@gellen ... Oh no! You drove there by yourself in the middle of a blizzard and your biggest concern was having to socialize with people again?!?! Wow! I live in snow country and going out in a blizzard is a huge NO... Last blizzard was about ten years ago and l hope to never live through another one! Those of you telling her to go and have a good time have obviously never lived through one!
My concerns would have been...
1. Going out in the middle of a blizzard!
2. Being around so many people when variants of COVID are happening!!
3. Socializing would have been the least of my concerns!
Good grief!!

I'd be willing to bet the OP didn't come here to get good grief reprimanded.....

@CelticCrafter ... I'm not reprimanding her.. I'm telling her the truth. I tend to become emotional when l hear about someone doing something so foolish. What if she was your mother? Would you want her to go out in the middle of a blizzard? They're dangerous to drive in. Maybe that's why 4 people agreed with me and one agreed with you. She's asking a question. I gave her my opinion. So I'm suppose to come on here and say... Go! Have a great time with my knowing what a blizzard is like? She could get in an accident or catch COVID. So what's your point?
