I can't imagine the pain you're going through and hope you can get your dog back soon. I don't have dogs of my own, but I care for my son's dogs when he's out of town. They're two black Labs and the most loveable guys. It's funny as I love them like my grandkids and miss them terribly when they're not around.

Maybe you are what's best for him.

I can understand the need to downsize, but I'm miffed that you would choose a home where you couldn't accommodate your dog. All that would have been needed was a first floor and fenced yard. I must be missing something.

The new home is not the issue; you are not understanding the point.

@goldensrbest I really wish you the best! It is very hard to make changes, especially as we age. It is never easy! Hard to give up certain things as well.
I truly hope you are able to keep your dog. If not, maybe down the road a bit you can get a small dog, one who would be comforatble in a small yard. I know it won't be the same, but it may help a bit....
I pray you adjust to your big life change! It is always hard, but not impossible!

You did do what was best and I wish posters wouldn't keep guilting you in to taking the dog back.
If they were as compassionate and caring as you--about your goldens, they would understand that life threw you some unfortuanate circumstances. And they'd realize how badly you are hurting and just leave it alone.
I hope your heartache mends with time. I think you did the best thing possible.![]()

@occasionalrain I think you are missing that not everybody gets to do what they want and sometimes difficult decisions have to be made. Please try to put yourself in someone else's shoes and be sympathetic rather than miffed.
Life at this point is difficult enough for people, especially older ones and their families, when there aren't very good choices you have access to.

@goldensrbest I wish you the best and hope you can grow to like your new home. I can put myself in your place and can imagine how hard it must be
I haven't read all the replies here but is there a dog park close there? Your lovely Golden could run there. I think if you decide to give him up you may be more miserable and lonely. But I know you will do what is best for him, not judging at all. You love your dog. Blessing to you.

Oh no. I guess I missed the post saying you had to surrender him to the breeder
I'm so sorry @goldensrbest. I can't begin to know how hard this is for you. I wish things could have turned out differently. Life hard.

We really don't know her difficulties. I do wish she could keep her dog. I sometimes dirive past a senior home and have seen an elderly person walking slowly with a walker and a little dog on a leash, one in a wheelchair.
So far everyone has a small dog, but again we don't know the whole story.
I pray for her to find a way to keep her dog. Sounds like she is not giving it up, because she wants to, but has some difficulties.
Mine is so old, it's like taking care of an elderly person, and being elderly myself, it's hard, but until she passes, or me, I will continue.
Mine has dementia, all the old age problems, but she still is my baby and does have some good days, where she wants to go outside and walk.
Yesterday we did a mile. She is small and old.
A big young dog is more difficult, but I hope she can take the dog. Great company.
