i agree with all the other posters. Please find a way to keep your beloved dog.  I moved to Las Vegas 2 years ago from a home I lived in for 25 years in Montana on a lake with 4 acres. I still have not adjusted to the loss. Every morning I am thankfull I have another day, thankfully I have my dog, and my 3 remaining cats. Without them I would be very depressed. They make me happy. My 180 pound Newfoundland has adjusted beautifully. He has become a guard dog to my surprise. He listens and barks with the neighborhood dogs. Runs around the small backyard and barks at the neighbors walking their dogs. He enjoys having dogs around and barking with them. He didn't see neighbors and dogs in Montana. In the summer he is in the house all the time because it is too hot and the sidewalks are too hot for his feet. He does just fine with it. He is happy. He loves me and he knows I love him dearly.  I wish you the best. You are in my prayers. Please find a way to keep your dog. You both need one another.

@tried it all . What an adjustment you had to make!  Wow, I don't know if I could have done it...from heaven to hades.

Did you know you can get booties for dogs to wear on hot pavement?  I bet Chewy or Amazon has them.

@Kachina624

thank you very much.     I appreciate it. I double checked both amazon and chewys as I use them both. They do not have  a giant breed his size. He is not fat. He is just taller and larger than alot. Sometimes that happens with the runt of the litter.  The summer months the night will not get cooler they can be 90 to 115 degrees. But thank you very much.  I do appreciate it.

Re: Having a very difficult time,with what life changes

@tried it all,  the article listed below contains links to several sites that have booties for large dogs, including newfies.

Searching on the phrase "booties for newfoundland dog" provided several links to sites that outfit large dogs.

@goldensrbest

People who live in the Los Angeles area (urban) often take their dogs to dog parks a few times a week.

Sometimes they meet other dogs and run together.  Other parks require dogs be on leash.

Just my two cents on the subject.

Re: Having a very difficult time,with what life changes

@goldensrbest  Do you have a decent Dog Park that is fenced in? I am lucky to have one close to my home. I go there nearly daily. I walk with a group that meets and we know each other pretty well. The dogs run, play and wrestle. Many  days it is the only conversation and socializing I have. I have seen some people sit on benches who cant walk  or choose not to and just observe.

Once you get to know people maybe someone would enjoy walking your dog but don't or can't own one? I find walking a dog gets me moving rather than force myself to walk.  The dog depends on me and gives me a purpose to go rather than put it off. I love Retrievers and I  would volunteer.

I stop and visit a neighbor's Golden with treats. She has a family but seems lonely and doesn't seem to have many toys or treats. She comes to me walking by  and my dog loves to see her also.She even watches for my car going by. She is outside with invisible fencing every day.

@Marp

               Thank you.  I have never seen this site before. It is very informative. I am still looking through it to find a summer boot his size. I really appreciate you taking the time and trouble to help me.  Thank you so very much.

Re: Having a very difficult time,with what life changes

I like the idea of using a dog walker.

Also, I'm wondering if your local humane society has volunteers to help seniors with their various limitations re: their dogs and cats, pets.

Maybe they know of senior groups who have similar situations and remedies.

I would give them a call and ask for information and referrals.

Don't go into too much detail.  Just ask if they have suggestions and/or referrals regarding various ways to walk your dog.

I'm sure that there are many others in your situation.  Lots of seniors living in apartments, condos, assisted living, etc.  All sorts of remedies, imo.

Wishing you and your dog the very best of luck.

I had to sell my home, moved into a very small place, the yard here is very small ,had 3 acres where i was, my golden clancy who will be 4 in auguast, he is with the breeder a wonderful lady, may have to give him up i can't  get out to walk him,and yard here is tiny,very close units here,please be nice in answering my thread.

First of all, a smaller home and less land to take care of as we get older is a plus.

The fact that Clancy is with it's breeder---best place to be.  Not to worry about being re-homed to someone who isn't used to the needs of a golden.

I'm sure you can see the yard is too small for Clancy, it would be just a 'let out and go and come back in'.  Clancy would probably bark if left outside alone in a strange place.  You know the circumstances better than anyone here.

Maybe the breeder would let you visit Clancy, if you were really hurting?

You may have limitations of sorts-- that a scooter, a dog walker or trying to take Clancy back at all, is just not the perfect scenerio.

Your love of dogs has shown here throughout the years, you are a kind animal lover. You should not be shamed into taking Clancy back, if you know it's not at all possible.

Clancy is safe at the breeders.  You are adjusting to a new home.  It's quite possible you are mourning your old home as I'm sure it has many memories that maybe goes back decades.

You need to take care of you, first and foremost.  As people get older, they know they can no longer take care of a large home, a lot of ground and even their pets.

Hi @goldensrbest  Woman Happy

I feel such a simpatico with you & your situation.

I havent been able to get back on my feet, during & post-COVID.  It's been one big "life-changer" on the heels of another that seems to be impeding me getting back up on my feet.  Too much to even list here.

ASK & I can provide the details.  --> I finally found an affordable Walker (not 4-wheel Rollator, which I already had, but old & bulky).  I hope this 0-2-wheeled Walker helps me to become more mobile in/out the home.

    I dont know if such a Walker would help you get to the door to help Clancy out/in of the house?   Certainly I can give you the info on the Walker (Amz).

Of course, you want to keep Clancy.  Who of us wouldnt want to.  We LOVE, LOVE our wonderful pets!

 Yet, sometimes, it just might not be feasible, no matter how hard we try, or how much we want to. And yes, our beloved pets are our beloved pets, & we'll do absolutely anything to keep them!!  yes!

   Have you considered also contacting a variety of Vets, in order to perhaps, arrange one of the Vet's Staff to earn a bit of money, walking Clancy?  The Staff dont make much money, and they usually love, & lovingly treat animals.

Contacting Council on Aging, etc are good suggestions.  I just have to pump myself up ahead of time, 'cause it can be time consuming, & sometimes the hurdles can feel like a bummer.

Regardless of ALL my reaching out, calls,  I NEVER, EVER let any one off my phone calls without THEIR suggestions for possible solutions to the problem that I called about!  Woman Wink  Those will be my next steps.

KEEP PLUGGING AWAY,  @goldensrbest .  ASKING, as you are here!  REACHING OUT!  Each person is SPECIAL  YOU ARE SPECIAL, @goldensrbest   I esp know thhis, cause you & I have had great chats together in the past!  Woman Very Happy

And of course, I have a Best Friend, that I have learned to trust,  and, that I pray to, journal to,  (esp when I cant trust myself, even trust life, (which happens ALL the time!)  & when I need more power than just myself)!

   And to keep pumping up with encouragement, there's online, CableTV, Best Friend programs to realign my "head/heart" space of encouragement & hope.

Pls keep reaching out, as you did here!.  There's soooo many of us in the same boat as yrself, that we can all help one another, JUST AS YOU DID HERE!  Woman Very Happy

And if you can, pls let us know how it's going for u.  You're an UNfinished story!  that we care for!  We ALL are!   Woman Very Happy

Re: Having a very difficult time,with what life changes

@goldensrbest Wishing both you and Clancy the best outcome for your situation!  It's fortunate that the breeder is still in your life.  If you need to re-home Clancy for whatever reason, hopefully they can help you find the best possible home for him.
