I agree.  DH is now disabled and can barely walk from the car into a restuarant.  He's stubborn and refuses to use a walker but may have to at some point.

As for me, I do enough cleaning, etc. in the house so I am happy to pay someone who can use the money to do the yard.

Oh bless his heart.  I know exactly how he feels and held out as long (or longer) than was safe for me to do so.  It's not my knees that put me on a walker this time, it's the back.  I can often go without it in the house but when I'm out and about, I'm almost always going to have a walker.  Using a walker causes me less pain later on and to be able to walk tall and straight when in public.  My "public" walker is purple and walker bag is a pink and purple floral pattern.  It gets compliments every time it's out and about lol. I hope your DH can somehow come to terms with a walker, soon.

Leaves came down late this year, but we got most of them raked. If the yard man doesn't get there, you know the leaves will be there in Spring, and he can handle them then.

DH(81) will use a cane but me on the other hand..The Dr.said I should use a cane after my foot surgery..I WILL NOT...

I pay a guy to plow my driveway and he's the same guy that mows my 2 acres of grass. When a tree came down that wasn't in the way..he came and cut it and asked if he could have the wood for his firepit..so he carted it away.

Re: Having A Bit Of An Issue

My lawn service company is the best.......but pricey. They do an outstanding job.  My issue is with my neighbors who don't use a lawn service.  They rarely, if ever, clean up leaves, consequently everything in their yards ends up in mine.  So far I've had leaves removed three times.

Next year I will be copying my neighbor. He waits until the day before gusty winds are forecast and then uses his leaf blower to make three huge piles of leaves.  The wind takes care of the majority of his leaves.  I will use his tactics next year, which will save me a lot of money and hopefully the leaves will end up in his yard! 😂

How are you going to support your foot after surgery if you don't use a cane?  Are you going to use a walker?

Re: Having A Bit Of An Issue

You all must have big yards.  I have a huge backyard and got rid of trees years ago. I  also have a small side back yard all rock bricks and potted plants except for a fern tree and lilac tree.

I do all my own yard work for years.

My front is all brick and rock except for 8 round brushes that I trim round once a year. I think they are called Juniper and one cypress tree.

Lots of flowers under the front window.

I have always done my own yards because I tried to hire out twice and didn't like the work they did..  Too fast and too expensive.Plus they couldn't get the brushes round, they were lopsided. Time is money for them, so they have to go fast.  They must be good gardners to keep them.

March Ist  i start rounding the front bushes.  I had16 last year, but had 8 taken out.

I am now retired at 89 years, but exercise and hard work kept me going.

Next door gardner gets there and does front and back in less than 1/2 .  You all must have huge yards. If that pleases you and gives you more time for other things, good.

I used a walker in the house only...and in rehab..Had to learn to walk again after having Oestomylitis...I'm fine now..Now the walker is used to transport food from the kitchen to the living room.

They sent me home with a wheelchair..I refused to sit in it..I'm a tough old Italian woman...LOL

This past Oct. I fractured the bone on the side of my foot that had all the surgery a few years before..I was so afraid that the bone infection might come back...My kids want to wrap me in bubble wrap.

You are so right. We Italian women were born tough and then life stepped in.

Sorry what you are going through, but you will bounce back.
