I agree with you. I do love the fact you can make a scarf in an hour, though.

I used to knit when I was a teenager - very simple stuff. This made me want to try again!

It's like riding a bike; it comes right back.

Every year our hospital's ladies' auxiliary has a huge holiday sale. We get tons of yarn donated. The last few years, I've made 50+ scarves. (every year) They are all simple to make but the varieties of yarn make them look much more complicated. Most sell for $10-$20. I start in the summer and knit almost every day.

And now there are YouTube videos to walk you through anything you may have trouble with. Something they didn't have back in the day when my mom tried to teach me to knit. And join Ravelry on line for even more ideas and helpful people.

Another great site for knitting instructions and ""how to"" is Knit Pics. They also have crochet and a little rigid heddle weaving: get busy and have some fun! Poodlepet2

Re: Have you tried....Arm Knitting?

I LOVE fiber arts: give a girl a sweater and she will wear it a couple of times then ditch it.....but if you teach somebody how to knit, crochet or weave, they have the joy of creating and firing their imagination- and creating something that can be passed down....and no, it doesn't have to be the finest wool or high priced fibers either. There are some amazing synthetic fibers out there from which one can make beautiful fashions and home accessories. There is a site called "Craftsy" that teaches the needle arts from beginner to advanced. They are very affordable, ( most are under thirty bucks and they have great sales). The teachers are published authors, and some, such as Vicki Howell, has hosted shows on HGTV and PBS. There are easy to use forums, and the instructors are fantastic about answering your questions quickly. Once you buy a class, it's yours to watch anytime you want. You can take notes and bookmark techniques- and replay over and over. Crafty is marvelous and they offer so many classes in so many fields- cooking, sewing, soap and jewelry making just to name a few. I have no affiliation other than being a happy customer. If you need to give a last minute gift, giving a class is a great idea. Poodlepet2
