Re: Have you received this call?

I just keep my landline off the hook.  Solves the problem of having to listen to the phone ringing all day long, and then the 'Click' on the message recorder.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

LOL, Hedge, I was just going to post that I am in the Dark Ages when it comes to phone service. You made me chuckle. I AM on a No Call list, but it doesn't work as good as it did years ago when we first signed up. The robo callers/scammers are always coming up with new ways to get around that.

@country gal, I went there because you are trying to battle a communication technology issue using obsolete technology.

Also, the old state by state No Not Call lists have been replaced by a National Do Not Call Registry that is permanent. No need to re-apply every few years. You must call 1-888-382-1222 from the phone number you want added to the national registry.

@ROMARY

I also have a landline w/an answering machine.  You do not have to take the phone "off the hook."

Turn the phone ringer off.

You can also lower the sound or turn it off on an ansering machine.  If a caller leaves a message, the answering machine will blink a red or blue light notifying you that someone left a message.

Mine also records calls even if no message is left.  I can erase all at will.

I check my messages in the evenings and/or at my leisure.

I get robo calls, but none leave a message.  Once my answering machine picks up, the robos hang up before the message complets.  My answering machine message starts off w/"all calls are screened....." Smiley Tongue

Re: Have you received this call?

I just signed up on the Nat'l. Do Not Call list..was only on my state list before. I will be checking into the Caller I.D., Call Blocker and NoMoreRobo that were suggested. This problem had just gotten so bad in the last year and I didn't know what to do to correct it. Thanks for ALL your info. I just needed to know what to do and get a little nudging from you all. I will now take action! Thanks so much.

Re: Have you received this call?

Another google check website is 800notes. Punch in the phone number from your phone or caller ID and see what that site says about that particular number.

The Do Not Call List is only effective with penalties for legitimate companies not these overseas companies.

I realize the OP doesn't have Caller ID but I put this website out for those wanting additional info about who is contacting them.

Re: Have you received this call?

BTW @COUNTRYGAL, don't let anyone shame you about not having the latest in technology.  I've been using my original flip cell phone for 15 years and just replaced it with a neat little flip phone from Amazon for $28.  And the only reason I replaced my first flip phone with this one is because I wanted the additional features of camera and video. I have no use for a Smartphone --  I can still make and receive calls, and text just like everyone else. :-)

Who can afford a smart phone and then have to learn how to use it.

I found out on vacation that those smart phones ain't so smart after all.

My husband was at his sisters house who has a land line I didn't know the sisters # and my idiot husband had his cell phone turned off. I went to 3 different places trying to find a phone book and these people all had these smart phones and each one of them couldn't find me the number because you had to have an account with the yellowpages in order to look up a number.

I finally found somebody who had an old copy of a phone book and got her number.

All this new technology is all about paying for something. Good ol' phonebook was always free. LOL

@country gal, I certainly wasn't trying to "shame you", or your technology. @SaRina, I use three phones, one is a "feature" or flip phone.

The OP's inability to identify a caller or block an unwanted call is last century's annoyance, now all grown up into this century's vulnerability. It would be wise for COUNTRYGAL to become familiar with what current phone tech is capable of, even if she choses not to use it herself.
