Re: Have you ever legally changed your name?

Maybe the better question here might be how many of us changed our names and are now on the run from the law? Smiley Tongue

I had to stand up in front of a judge and swear I was not doing that before I got my new name.  I must look like I am up to no good.

Only my last name when I was married.

Me too.  I also kept my married name when I got divorced.  Did not want a different last name from my son.

Re: Have you ever legally changed your name?

Yes.  Last name changed when I got married.  After I got divorced, I kept the married name because by then we had a son.  After my son turned 21 I asked him how he felt that I had decided to go back to my maiden name.  He thought that was perfectly fine.  I couldn't just start using my maiden name because it was more than three years after the divorce, so I had to go through whole legal rigamarole of filing papers to get approval to change to a name that was already mine.  I will never change my name again.

I took my DH's last name. Now it's interesting because his last name is legally spelled. Three different times it was misspelled. BIL and an Uncle spell it differently.

All the important papers have the spelling as he has used it.

Re: Have you ever legally changed your name?

I was married over 20 years and yes I took my husbands last name. My first name is Spanish and my ex's husband last name is Spanish, when we went to court the judge asked me if I wanted to go back to my maiden name. Since I still had a 7 year old and a 14 year old, not to mention, credit cards in my name, deeds to the house, the car and property It only made sense to keep my maiden last name. Its funny I get offers for credit cards, People magazine in Spanish and Travel magazine in Spanish, not to mention coupins and free offers. Its more of a pain to change it back so for my kids and my self I just kept it.
