Re: Have you ever heard of Instacart?

@Katcat1 It's nationwide and I've known about it for at least a year.

I love going grocery shopping and have no interest in food delivery!

Re: Have you ever heard of Instacart?

I love it! I haven't had to step foot in a grocery store since March and I can't believe how much time it frees up. I stay in contact with my shopper and I order so often, I even know them by name. Now, if only Trader Joe's delivered or did curbside at least

Re: Have you ever heard of Instacart?

I've been using them once (sometimes twice) a week since March.  No problems with the shoppers or delivery (not always the same person), but the store is sometimes out of a lot of stuff.  I've only cancelled one order due to not having much of what I wanted available due to weather).

Some shoppers are very good and take photos of things and the shelf to "prove" they are out of something.  Some try very hard to get you a good replacement.  Some will wait for them to make you something if it's not on the shelf (prepared foods).  Some just get what's on the list and deliver it.

There were times early on in the lockdown where getting a delivery slot was difficult or the next available was 5 days away.  But that worked itself out and now it's easy to get a 2 hour slot the same day.

Re: Have you ever heard of Instacart?

I’ve been using Instacart a few times a month for over a year. The only time I’ve ever had a problem was when someone else’s bag was left with my order.

I like instacart because it's very interactive. As they are shopping, I can ask them if there is this or tjhat and they text back so I can add things to my cart that weren't originally in it

Overall I was unhappy with the substitutions & the quality of the fresh fruit & vegetables.

Another issue for me was I felt they were expensive. I found that sometimes they charge more for the items. Then they charge a delivery fee of $5-$10, a service charge of 20% & a tip for 20%.
I found a local supermarket that delivers for free if your order is $100.You tip whatever you like when you receive it. If I have a problem with the substitutions, which rarely happens, I call & get an immediate refund. If I have coupons the delivery driver takes them & by the end of the day my account is credited.

I am an Express Member I pay a yearly subscription of $99, I order my groceries weekly, so it works out to $8.25 a month There is NO Delivery Fee for Express Members,  and the Service Fee is $2.00...so it works out for a TOTAL of $17 a month! A tip is optional and you can tip whatever you like....and I give one since the whole reason I went with Instacart is because I got tired of loading heavy items like 25 lbs of cat litter, large bags of cat food, and big bottles of laundry soap, gallon of milk, canned goods, etc etc in my car, and then unloading them and taking them into my house....So its worth it to me....I have arthritis in a knee that acts up from time to time....

Ive gotten to know some of the Shoppers too....

Maybe they will add Trader Joes---They keep adding more and more stores to the Instacart Family---Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Specs, Big Lots, Family Dollar, Sprouts, Staples, Costco, Petco, Sephora, Sams Club, s, Natural Grocers, 7 Eleven......

Acme Discontinues Instacart, Forms Own Shopping-Delivery Platform
Acme’s move to establish and bring in-house the shopping system comes as Instacart said it expected to reduce its in-store shopping jobs by 1,900, according to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal

I hadn't heard that about Acme, but good for them.  I think a lot of supermarket chains, especially the bigger ones, are already developing their own online ordering, pick-up, and delivery systems.  They prefer to control that end of their business rather than farming it out to Instacart.

When you try Instacart you are given different supermarkets to choose from.  It's used from your zip code.  Even if you live far, they will get you a supermarket.  My selections were Wegmans, Costco, Aldi, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Safeway, Giant, BJ's, Shoppers. I was very happy I got Wegmans.  Wegmans is far from me.  It's almost 20 miles away.  So far I've tried Wegmans, Costco, Aldi & Giants.  Now I just use Wegmans.  The other shopping services are about the same way.  One of them is called Shipt.  My neighbor uses them.  When I told her I got Wegmans, she switched to Instacart.

You don't have to have a membership.  But they will charge you a delivery fee.  Membership (pay monthly or yearly ($99.00) get free delivery.  It would be great if they could get Trader Joes.  But Trader Joe refuses to deliver food.

Re: Have you ever heard of Instacart?

The only problem I've had with Instacart is bad produce.  If I do delivery I won't get produce.  I told them they need to train their people how to pick produce.

When Aldi's employees do the shopping and I go curbside pickup then Instacart is fine for me.
