Yes, it started as cyber stalking and escalated. Back when it started, there were no laws regarding cyber stalking in the state of Ohio.
Luckily, as others have posted, I had family and good neighbors and good friends who were always there for me. I worked on a secure military installation with multiple gates. I never took the same route to work, and never left through the same gate. I stayed alert to any vehicle following me, and a couple of times detoured to the local police station. Other than going to and from work, I didn't go anywhere alone.
I have always had multiple dogs, and they are very protective. I took self defense classes and learned not only ways to defend myself should I be surprised, but the instructor also advised to keep things handy that you could use from a distance to disable an attacker, things like aerosol over cleaner, hot shot wasp killed (that shoots the spray up to 25 feet)!
The most important thing is to always be aware of your surroundings and ALWAYS let people know if you suspect you are being stalked.

I have, they even kidnapped my pet and held it for 'ransom'. There's no limit to what some twisted people do. The police were useless btw.......

Started a new job, newly divorced, two small children after about 6 months on the job a co-worker started following me home, calling my home and hanging up, following me around at work, leaving me things. The girls in my immediate department were concerned and told my supervisor. My supervisor called me in HER office, asked me about the situation and then told me to my face that she did not believe it. Went on for a quite a while. Police didn't want to hear it, he hadn't "done anything", meaning he hadn't raped me or hurt me YET. He's dead now. Don't know about the supervisor. It was a nightmare come to life.

Back in the '70's in AZ we had a house for sale and a guy came by to look at it. He said he was a photographer and then started asking me if I would pose n*de for him. I promptly showed him to the door thinking that was the end of it. Not. He kept coming back and I had to ensure that my house was locked at all times and I alerted the neighbors. I was close to calling the police, but it finally ended. I was truly frightened.

Yes, I have. I grew up in a small town in S>D., where everyone knew everyone, and my Dad had a well known business there. My GF and I went to the movies about every Saturday afternoon. I was about seven and she, eight.
One summer this guy about nineteen or so, came to our town, sporting a shiny beautiful convertible. He would drive all over town, just staring at anyone. We called him Stary Harry. One Sat. we went to the movies and he sat beside us, we moved, then he sat behind, we moved etc., never saying a word. We even went to the upstairs balcony and he kept following us.
I was scared so we told the theatre manager and left. I then went to my Dad's business and told him. Apparently he hadn't gone unnoticed in our town by the adults. Shortly after that, he left town.
My Dad knew Stary's uncle very well, he was a farmer that did a lot of business with my Dad. Stary was spending the summer here and just happened to be the rich and spoiled son of the man who owned a huge company in Chicago. Never heard about him again.

Yes, the police were useless with me also. There has to be a dead body. I watched my pets as well. I feared for my husband as those guys will do what they can to eliminate anyone they feel is in their way - even children. Why can't their parents ever teach a boy to take "NO" off a female and realize she means it.

I went to get a restraining order- basically had a judge laugh in my face- I told him when they found me dead he'd be laughing out the other side of his face- threatened me with contempt.. this was back in the late 70's... idiot judge..

Love Roses, I almost posted a similar statement myself.
That was the crux in the stalkings I experienced, The stalker doesn't take no as an answer and there are few safeguards for women until an assault has occurred.
