Have You Knitted A Blanket ?

I am working on trying to get one done for Christmas. This is my first one and I'm a bit nervous to wash it when it's done. When I started my new thread, I knitted it with the old thread and then ran the excess/ends through alot of stitches on the back side to anchor it down. I'm paranoid those threads are going to come out and then start to unravel. how did your first blanket turn out? I'm using two threads and it's a really thick blanket and so soft.
